Axel Milberg

A native of the city of Kiel in northern Germany, Axel Milberg has been one of the most recognized faces in German television and films since the early 1990s. Born to a doctor mother and a lawyer father, Milberg studied at the Otto Falckenberg School of the Performing Arts in Munich before finding work on the stage at the Munich Studio Theatre. Making the transition from stage to screen in the 1980s, Milberg worked steadily in German television for the next decade, appearing on series such as "Derrick" and "Wolff's Turf." It wasn't until 1994, when he began playing Commissioner Klaus Borowski on the long-running police drama "Tatort," that he found his niche. Portraying a policeman tracking down criminals on the streets of Kiel, Milberg found fame through the series, which also allowed him to stay close to his family while filming on location in his hometown. In 2007, he starred as Dr. Martin Helling in the popular medical series "Doktor Martin," and found himself in demand as a film actor as well, working on such projects as Tom Tykwer's 2009 thriller "The International" with Naomi Watts and Clive Owen, and the 2010 biopic "Young Goethe in Love." Milberg also lends his voice to audio books as the narrator of a series of detective novels by Henning Mankell.
