Jochen Striebeck
For German thespian Jochen Striebeck, the acting life was in his blood. His father, Karl Striebeck, was a famous actor of stage and screen and a theatrical director; his mother, Mathilde Zedler, was also a stage actress; and his brother is notable actor Peter Striebeck. After graduating from the University of Music and Theater in Hamburg in 1961, Striebeck followed his father and older brother in making a name for himself on the stage, especially with his performances of Shakespeare and Brecht. In the mid-1960s, he starred in a number of filmed stage productions for television, including presentations of "As You Like It" and Marcel Pagnol's "The Schpunz." He also co-starred in non-stage television programs, such as the drama "Revolt in the House of Education" and he was a regular on the crime series "Mordkommission." In 1980, Striebeck did voice work for an animated production of "The Wonderful Adventures of Nils," an adaptation of a popular children's story. More voice work would follow, most notably with the actor contributing to German dubbed versions of Hayao Miyazaki's epic fantasy "Princess Mononoke" and Pixar's "Cars." He also worked on the children's show "Der Mondbär." Older television viewers, however, may recognize the actor best from his work on the police procedural "Under Suspicion" and his role as Chief Inspector Kruppke on the cop show "Police 110."
