What to Know

Critics Consensus

A dense mystery with nods towards moral ambiguity, Better Sister is too derivative for its surprises to properly land but gets a dramatic lift from the appealing pairing of Elizabeth Banks and Jessica Biel.

Dickens has long been a character actor who can, as Billie Eilish would say, hit hard and soft, exuding both soothing gentleness and no-nonsense authority. Go to Full Review

Sharply crafted show, but far too long at eight hours. Go to Full Review

Judging by “The Better Sister,” a series can start out being stupid and obvious and eventually make fun of the stupid and the obvious, all the while upscaling its own genre. Go to Full Review

Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks as sisters was not something I had thought about before watching 'The Better Sister'. And yet, from their first scene together, it seemed like a no-brainer. Go to Full Review

This isn’t a show about a man’s murder. It’s about what women do with the truth when it finally claws its way out. Go to Full Review

Juju J Nov 17 Very slow and boring. Jessica Biel gives a wooden emotionless performance. See more ORLY J Nov 8 Pretty predictable with lots of cliches of plot device and character types. But that doesn't necessarily doom a show and this one is still OK based mainly on the acting which is pretty good IMO. Pacing is also uneven, unfolds slowly enough to bore some people it seems. That didn't turn me off but the sudden acceleration in the last episode made it a bit of a letdown. See more Swaggerdagger M Sep 28 While the series is very slow, the initial investigation and court proceedings were interesting. The last half of the movie however is a snooze fest. See more Cynical C Jul 24 The Better Sister is yet another run of the mill made-for-wine-moms series that manages to be mind-bogglingly boring. With writing that equates to that of a fan-fiction murder mystery and characters that wail and whinge more than a milk-drinking, dipper-wearing toddler, this showcases that plain bad writing has become the new cool amongst entertainment of all media’s. Doctors should use this as a new form of sedative to knock out patients before surgery. See more Susie E Jul 9 Trying to engage but this series is slow and boring! See more Ivan F @Neogrey Jul 7 If you don't have anything to watch on your 3 hour flight to there and back, it works. Convincing acting from the two leads but the rest was just not that good. Somebody just accidentally dropped the feminism shaker into this stew. See more Read all reviews
