Chris Vognar Boston Globe As grim as it can get, “Dept. Q” offers a world of viewing pleasure. Jun 12, 2025 Full Review John Powers NPR Goode has a gift for portraying charismatic unlikability... Here, he captures Carl's reflexive haughtiness yet also lets us glimpse the revealing moments when he registers the existence of people other than himself. Jun 12, 2025 Full Review Dan Einav Financial Times Dept. Q, a serviceable new Netflix crime thriller with a title that’s evocative of James Bond, and a premise more than a little reminiscent of Slow Horses. Rated: 3/5 Jun 4, 2025 Full Review Lissete Lanuza Sáenz Fangirlish Very British-TV in spirit, though set in Edinburgh, Netflix’s Department Q is more than a serviceable crime thriller. Instead, it’s an engaging watch, with the right amount of camaraderie, suspense, and mystery to keep you glued to the screen. Jun 17, 2025 Full Review James Hibbs Radio Times Dept. Q feels like a work in progress - not unlike its protagonist, it's a mess with real promise beneath it all, a diamond waiting to be cut and polished. Rated: 3/5 Jun 11, 2025 Full Review Marty Brown Common Sense Media No, this isn't Apple's hit Slow Horses, but Dept. Q takes many of its cues from the Gary Oldman series, with diminishing returns. Audience Member A really great show and its great to see cast members from still game in there. This kind of show has been done before but this is a more grounded affair and the characters are being fleshed out well and make you care for them. A must watch! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/18/25 Full Review Thomas V Dept. Q is a must watch thriller with a very good ending. I binge watched and enjoyed every minute. Best series on NETFLIX right now in my opinion. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/18/25 Full Review Mark M So let me get this straight....Merritt is having an affair with a bloke that she doesn't recognise, despite going out with his brother 20 years ago. OK.... Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/18/25 Full Review Connie L This is one of the best among many great Brit, and specifically Scottish, cop stories. Am delighted to see Matthew Goode, Jamie Stives, Alexej Manvelov, Kate Dickie having so much fun. Lovely performances. Chloe Pirrie was fabulous. How I would love to meet Shirley Henderson. She is a treasure. The actor who played the disabled brother was excellent, as were all the baddies. Thanks to the folks who decided to develop this story and did it so well. I might check out the book. Great production and so nerve racking I'm glad I made it to the end. Do hope there will be another season, a few more would be welcome. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/18/25 Full Review Dan P While the initial character set up is a bit formulaic (Sherlock Holmes, House MD, etc), this does not detract with an overall pretty excellent execution. It has a few twists and turns, but no so much that it turns your brain into a pretzel. The dialogue at times gets lazy with just non stop F bombs, which isn't offensive to me, but it just seems lazy. But it's still very well done. Overall, definitely recommend. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/18/25 Full Review Brent M The story is from a book written years ago and is made into a gritty slow build thriller with horrible people both bad guys and the good guys. The pacing is perfect and the build up slow and nasty, just like the author wrote them. It’s cliff hanger till the end. Season 2 please. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/18/25 Full Review Read all reviews
