Hercules has Brett Ratner behind the cameras and Dwayne Johnson rocking the loincloth -- and delivers exactly what any reasonable person reading that description might expect.

Ralph R Rewatching Hercules by Brett Ratner didn’t do it any favors. If anything, it felt worse than I remembered back in 2014. The production quality was a major letdown. The costumes and sets looked fake and uninspired, taking away from any sense of immersion. It’s disappointing because the story had the potential to be something great, but it completely failed to deliver a proper message or even a satisfying narrative. There were, however, some bright spots in the acting. Ian McShane, Rebecca Ferguson, Aksel Hennie, and Rufus Sewell stood out with strong performances that brought some much-needed life to the film. As for Dwayne Johnson, he was exactly what you’d expect—charismatic but predictable. His performance was similar to most of his other roles, and while he fits the action-hero mold well, he didn’t bring anything exceptional to this character. The movie had a good plot idea but failed to make it meaningful or memorable. It’s a shame because it could have been so much more if there had been better direction and production. Instead, it ends up feeling like a wasted opportunity. While there are some enjoyable moments, it’s hard to ignore the flaws that hold it back. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/11/24 Full Review Carson P This is the second Hercules movie of 2014 and out of the two films released that year this one is the superior to that atrocious disaster from Renny Harlin with Kellen lutz that came out in January. And ten years later this is still the best out of them while it’s not a perfect movie or one that would win Oscar’s ( despite Dwayne Johnson’s brilliant performance ) or be seen as a deep thinking film this is still an entertaining big dumb fun action film about a muscular warrior god that wants everyone safe. This one understands Hercules well and is more faithful to its source material unlike the legend of Hercules this has far better acting Dwayne Johnson gives a great performance as the god and the direction is also competent Brett ratner is a way better director than schlock maestro Renny Harlin, along with the villains, cinematography, special effects, battle scenes they are all way better and more exiting and being something more original and not trying to rip off gladiator or 300 like that January released film did and it doesn’t abuse with pointless slo motion. This is a good movie in genneral if not a great one outside of being overblown in a couple of battle scenes it’s still a pleasant and delightfully amusing watch that’s why I give it a 7/10 I highly reccomend it to those who want an enjoyable leave half your brain at the door popcorn film. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/15/24 Full Review Eric O Very forgettable. I even forgot part of the story while watching it Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/01/24 Full Review Blu B I guess if you know anything about Ratner's quality of work the past few decades and any one of the 95% of the Rock's films where he plays himself than yeah this should'nt be much of a surpise. I guess the bigger suprise is them making a Epic Film but getting butchered and watered down to a mindless action flick. Spartacus or Gladiator this isn't. The music is standard stuff and pretty unremarkable on it's own. The cinematography is alright. There is tons of production value, special effects practical and digital, and costume design behind this but it just is ok. The camerawork is basic, the action is over the top, and sometimes it's so dark you can barely see. The acting, editing, and pacing are all subpar as well. The entire supporting cast is so forgettable save for Hurt who isn't bad. But the worst part is the Rock who I don't buy is Hercules for one second in this. He is clearly just playing himself and isn't good. His character is so boring and perfect that it's never really relatable. Story wise it feels like some watched the 3 hour sword and sandel epics and said lets get rid of all the talking and character devlopment stuff which is 70% of the runtime and just leave the action and bare minimum stuff to move the plot forward. 60% of this is just over the top action and it gets a bit repetitive. And for such a shor runtime with soooo many side characters we never get a a real fleshed out character interactions. Any interaction is barely a minute maybe at most and this is a big reason why everyone is forgettable and it becomes mindless basically. Having a epic story isn't just about big battles, but a complex and larger than life character witht supporting ones to boot. The best part that sums this up is how in 2 minutes at the start we go through Hercules entire life story in wha should've taken WAY longer. And oddly enough it feels like there was more fleshed out characters in this with how certain scenes are edited and you can feel like this had the non action stuff butchered heavily in the editing room. Anyway, skip this and watch the 97' Disney classic instead. (Him wearing the wolf cape is unitentionally hilarious) Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/24/24 Full Review Georgan G 3.25 stars. Much better than I thought it would be. If you like wars of the ancient Greeks, you will love this. Johnson did a really good job of stunts & acting.
