Kelley Morse (Chris Klein), who is cocky and brash, normally would never have crossed paths with the residents of a small town near his posh private school. But when he races his new car against a local boy and destroys a diner, he is sentenced to rebuild the diner and falls in love with the owner's daughter (Leelee Sobieski).

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Critics say Here on Earth's weakness comes from its script. The story may appeal to young teenage girls, but it suffers from being overly sentimental and formulaic. The cinematography, however, is lovely in how it captures its Minnesota setting.

Lea S Jul 11 I like how the movie is shot and it gives a very nostalgic feel. It had potential if it weren't, for the fact, that she cheats on her really cute boyfriend for some cocky rich kid. Ruined everything for me. The entire movie is actually not based on her boyfriend, but the guy she cheats on him with? And it's basically made out to be okay, too. They are the main couple. Did she break up with him or talk to him about it atleast, before it got out of hand? No. I might be biased because i watched this for Josh Hartnett, but cheating shouldn't be made okay. Poor Jasper. See more Sarah F 10/23/2024 I was quite disappointed by this film. She cheats on her boyfriend (who seems like a great guy) with a cocky rich boy. Falls in love after only knowing him for a brief time. Cocky guy abandons her when he finds out she's dying. He shows back after some time. He apologizes and she shushes him and just acts like everything is all ok. Boo 👎 See more Emily P 05/29/2024 I liked this movie when I saw it the first time when I was in middle school, I love Leelee Sobieski I’m bias because she was my first favorite actress, but her character of Samantha in the movie loved Josh Hartnett’s character Jasper, she thought she was in love but fell out of love and she found her soulmate through Chris Klein’s character of Kelley. This movie definitely deserves a higher score than 17% but my favorite line besides them quoting Robert Frost was, “Some people live their whole lives and never fall in love…I lived my life and I fell in love. “ See more Steve D 02/06/2023 The cast do a good job but the story is poor melodrama. See more 08/09/2021 What on Earth would have been a better title. Sweet Jesus. This was a terrible film. Pretty strong leading cast, "mates" that all looked the same, nice camerawork .. and a god awful story. Truly terrible. She falls for the rich block cause .. literally no idea.
