Leslie Felperin Guardian Goes big on the angst of thirtysomething blokes and their eternal struggles issues with commitment and attaining self-knowledge, but it's hard to hold a grudge against it given the energy of the direction and the charisma of its toothsome young stars. Rated: 3/5 Nov 23, 2017 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) A foolish, creatively fatal miscalculation sits at the heart of this south London relationship drama. It's a movie that expects you to love the central character for no obvious reason other than he's the central character. Rated: 1/5 Oct 5, 2017 Full Review Charlotte Harrison VultureHound Hi-Lo Joe should be commended for its ambition and for showcasing the truly important issue of mental health. Audience Member To me this was a fairly accurate portrayal of what it's like to live with depression/bipolar. It showed the good times but also the hopelessness, the directionless, self medication, the ups and downs that I've seen in myself and others. Ultimately it hinted at a degree of recovery and control that can come with self care and practise. I identified with many of the issues the lead character faced and it reflected the difficulties that a partner might experience too. Well worth a watch, it's free on Amazon at the time of writing.
