Why is it that good movie ideas are always being interrupted by goons with guns, and obligatory chase and fight scenes, just when we would actually be interested in how the characters were really feeling? Go to Full Review

A chaste "yeesh" is still a "yeesh," and the movie never hits that "Beverly Hills Cop" sweet spot it's clearly chasing from the opening-credits song. But it remains watchable thanks to Jon Cryer, Annabeth Gish and 1980s teen-movie MVP Keith Coogan. Go to Full Review

For once, though, a teen movie where obnoxious nerds and general dimwittedness usually reign supreme, displays refreshing wit and recognizable emotions. That is no small feat. Go to Full Review

this movie is fun to watch, but mostly as a way to remember the fashions and styles of 1980s high school Go to Full Review

Jason H Aug 18 Great performances by Jon Cryer and Annabeth Gish. This movie requires a lot of suspension of disbelief. See more J H May 9 I saw this opening weekend. The "Class President" subplot is pretty dumb (Senior Class President is always elected at the end of the Junior year), but it's an entertaining movie with a great performance by Jon Cryer. Plus, how can you not like a movie where a guy takes a girl to see Evil Dead 2 on a date? See more Steve D 09/01/2023 It works surprisingly well all things considered. See more 03/16/2021 A rather worthy adversary in a Jon Hughes era. Surprised this is not in the Bueller and Ridgemont High tier. Cryer gives a fresh and believable performance See more 04/08/2020 Cryer is good as the stockbroker who must go undercover at his cousin's high school. It's not believable but it's still fun to watch. See more 10/08/2019 This is one of my favorite movies of the '80s, Jon Cryer coming into his own as an underappreciated and underutilized fringe member of the Brat Pack. Escaping my life and reinventing myself had already been a dream as a kid, adolescent, and teenager; and remains so thirty two years later. Cryer's performance was tops. Combining drama with touches of action is a great genre mix. The movie, though well rated by audiences, is still underappreciated. I hope it makes a comeback, along with hundreds of other forgotten gems. See more Read all reviews
