Marjorie Baumgarten Austin Chronicle Rated: 2.5/5 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times The movie makes two mistakes: (1) It isn't very funny, and (2) it makes the crucial error of taking its story seriously and angling for a happy ending. Rated: 1.5/4 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review USA Today Except for dated homages to Deer Hunter and Rebel Without a Cause, High tries to squeeze guffaws out of the crumbling educational system, not exactly gut-buster material. Rated: 1.5/4 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Preston Barta Denton Record-Chronicle 'High School High' may push the envelope a little too far at times, but you won't be able to hold back the tears from laughing so hard. The first 30 minutes are pure gold! Rated: 3/5 Jun 10, 2019 Full Review Michael Dequina TheMovieReport.com Does drive home a few laughs, but not nearly as many as the Zucker name would lead you to believe. Beau B As someone who has taught in similar schools, I thought it exaggerated very real problems facing the students who go there. Having a teacher like this who cares and believes in them can be a game changer. Believe it or not, but the teaching philosophy of John Lovitz’s character is absolutely very real and very effective. This realism heightened the overall comedic value. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/19/24 Full Review Dave G Cute movie. Has an "Airplane" comic feel to it. Feel good movie from the good old days. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/04/24 Full Review Christopher J LOL very funny Jon Lovitz Best Movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/24/24 Full Review StephenPaul C LOL, the funniest 01 hour: and 26 minutes ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/01/23 Full Review Valerie G This movie was fantastic for its time. It just missed the whole parody film genre by a few years, and seeing people bash it makes me want to slap them silly. This had the best dry humor and Jon Lovitz is the man. He will never get his due diligence for his acting and for that, everyone who hasn't recognized this guy for who he is should just stop living with your head in the dirt. Shame. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/12/23 Full Review Audience Member A spoof that is far too goofy to work. At least for the material that it's trying to send up.
