Matt Zoller Seitz RogerEbert.com Pigossi is a movie-star presence who truly understands acting for the camera—i.e., letting us feel whatever the character is feeling. Rated: 3/4 Mar 26, 2025 Full Review G. Allen Johnson San Francisco Chronicle [Pigossi] neatly avoids wallowing in Lourenço’s misery and instead finds a humanity one can root for. It’s a powerfully emotional performance that lifts all boats in this picturesque drama. Rated: 3/4 Dec 7, 2024 Full Review Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News “High Tide” is more character-driven than plot-driven and refreshingly refuses to neatly resolve Lourenço’s plight, while leaving open a window for his realistic happiness. Rated: 3.5/4 Dec 4, 2024 Full Review John Noonan FILMINK (Australia) … a beautiful piece of work which, like Moonlight, can resonate to the core. Rated: 15/20 Mar 19, 2025 Full Review Ben Sears Loud and Clear Reviews Marco Calvani’s directorial debut High Tide is a three-dimensional story of love and belonging that comes from a place of sincerity. Rated: 3/5 Jan 27, 2025 Full Review André Hereford Metro Weekly (Washington, DC) A gay Brazilian stuck in P-town seeks a visa, and finds a fling in the sweetly melancholy romance 'High Tide.' Sean B Saw it at BFI Flare. Beautiful, touching, lovely film. The characters are loved/Provincetown is loved… there is much care and softness to the entire experience. Such a pleasure to watch it on the big screen and in a packed theatre. Of course some happy weeping at the end! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/26/25 Full Review Kate T A beautiful and emotional film that truly left an impression on me. Marco Pigossi’s performance is outstanding; he brings his character to life in such a real and relatable way. I felt like I instantly connected with him, and his journey felt so personal and genuine. The film covers so many different themes, from love and loss to personal growth, and it does so in a way that really tugs at your heartstrings. The cinematography is breathtaking, with every shot feeling carefully crafted to enhance the story. The natural scenery is stunning and really draws you into their world. The music was also beautiful. Honestly, I was left wanting to watch it again. After finishing it, I found myself thinking about the details I might have missed the first time. It’s one of those films that sticks with you, and I’m definitely planning to revisit it to take in all the little touches I didn’t notice before. A great achievement and I hope Marco Calvani will make more. Will there be a low tide? I hope so! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/25/25 Full Review Eduardo G The movie is extraordinary. The real message for me is that the migration project belongs to the person who wants to migrate. The legal documents will not be an obstacle for that; the love stories and their breakdown will not be an obstacle for that; the dreams of the family will not be an obstacle for that; employment will not be an obstacle for that; drugs will not be an obstacle for that. The movie shows us that the desire for migration is in the mind and body of the person only. Therefore, when looking at each single migrant, we must understand that migration is not determined by any legal or social institution - family, group of friends, church, State, or marriage life. For me, this movie showed the real core feeling of migration. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/24/25 Full Review simone M I really liked the movie; it truly touched me. It’s beautifully made and captures how lost and alone we can sometimes feel in life. But it also reminds us to treasure our journey and the people we meet along the way, as they help us grow and learn more about ourselves. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/23/25 Full Review carter p High Tide gave me great comfort in humanity and the ability to overcome grief through the love and support of our friends and more importantly through loving ourselves. Every choice was so perfect, the writing, the acting, the direction and of course all those familiar locations in Provincetown. I saw myself there feeling those feelings many of which I experienced myself and it touched me deeply. Thank you for your sensitivity and kindness on so many levels. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/21/25 Full Review Carl H The two stars is only due to the background characters represented for P-town. It showed what the town would be like come the off season. The clichés of plot points seemed to be thrown together but none of them hit the mark. The lost love leading to drama , the new love leading to drama, the jilted ex (who for some reason works for the one with whom they are angry) etc... None of the main characters had enough development to make me feel sympathy for the supposed struggles with which they are dealing. In fact the choices made in the film made me confused as to how we are supposed to feel tension when in fact they are bringing it upon themselves. (SPOILER-ish) There is no way someone can hope to get their VISA renewed when they want to stay in a town that is only busy two months of the year.
