Matt Zoller Seitz RogerEbert.com Pigossi is a movie-star presence who truly understands acting for the camera—i.e., letting us feel whatever the character is feeling. Rated: 3/4 Mar 26, 2025 Full Review G. Allen Johnson San Francisco Chronicle [Pigossi] neatly avoids wallowing in Lourenço’s misery and instead finds a humanity one can root for. It’s a powerfully emotional performance that lifts all boats in this picturesque drama. Rated: 3/4 Dec 7, 2024 Full Review Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News “High Tide” is more character-driven than plot-driven and refreshingly refuses to neatly resolve Lourenço’s plight, while leaving open a window for his realistic happiness. Rated: 3.5/4 Dec 4, 2024 Full Review Rich Cline Shadows on the Wall Gently tinged with issues relating to sexuality and race, the approach is knowingly realistic and also funny, emotional, sexy and surprising. Rated: 4/5 Apr 8, 2025 Full Review John Noonan FILMINK (Australia) … a beautiful piece of work which, like Moonlight, can resonate to the core. Rated: 15/20 Mar 19, 2025 Full Review Ben Sears Loud and Clear Reviews Marco Calvani’s directorial debut High Tide is a three-dimensional story of love and belonging that comes from a place of sincerity. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/02/25 Full Review Paula S Truly beautiful, delicate and powerful! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/15/25 Full Review Garry A I watched about half an hour of this. It was ok. It was moving really slow. I just wasn't willing to commit watching the movie all the way through. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/13/25 Full Review Joao R High Tide is beautiful movie, exploring the challenges of self-discovery and personal growth in the face of life's adversities, reflecting on how these experiences shape our evolution. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/05/25 Full Review Luke H I really loved this film. Beautifully shot and masterfully acted it tells a story of managing heartbreak whilst dealing with the sense of alienation that comes from being a foreigner striving to survive in a confusing new land and also the pain that comes from hiding ones sexuality from family back home. Thank you for all involved for making such a beautiful film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/02/25 Full Review Bing T Remarkable film, deeply moving story of a young Brazilian man’s attempt to make a new life for himself in the U.S. It is also an increasingly moving and uniquely thought-provoking love story that is far removed from the clichéd accounts we’re so used to from Hollywood. Pigossi, well known in Brazil and increasingly now in Europe and the U.S., is outstandingly attractive but more importantly is outstandingly talented. He has quite a mesmerizing connection to the other characters and to us, the audience. The cinematography is breathtaking and for this reviewer, who hasn’t been back to P Town for decades, it is immediately and strongly nostalgic. The Cast are excellent without exception and seem as though they were born for the roles. As you can no doubt tell I was bowled over by this movie and can’t wait to see what Calvani turns his attention to next. Don’t miss it! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/29/25 Full Review Read all reviews
