Audience Member Absolutely hilarious, which is definitely not what the director intended. A golden example of poorly-executed benevolent racism. For whatever reason, despite taking place in the 1950s, the protagonist is anachronistically dressed for the Great Depression. Spoiler Alert: the punchline for the entire thing is that, despite the poor Black boy's limited means and his cruel treatment by a diner waitress, he chooses the smaller portion of French Fries in order to leave the waitress a tip, which touches her so deeply she begins to cry.
