acsdoug D @acsdoug 04/21/2024 I'm in the middle of a biography on Fairbanks and I started watching his films in chronological order. At first glance it's hard to see his appeal: he's not very good looking and in a silent movie he can't overcome that drawback with dialogue delivery . However, the man is a natural on screen. His acting looks completely effortless, and he avoids the extravagant gestures and expressions that many stage actors initially brought to the movies. And of course, his stunts are are both impressive and graceful. This film's plot is rather simplistic, maybe even a bit silly. But the humor holds up rather well and Fairbanks is fun to watch. See more 12/05/2011 In this picture, Fairbanks plays the son of a rich food corp. owner. He falls in love with the daughter of another food corp. owner, who specializes in vegetarian foods, and wont let her marry him unless he has a cut in the profits of his father's company. Problem is, he's a lazy bum, so his father says he'll only give him a cut if he gets some publicity for the company. So he goes around looking for ways to get, as the title says, his picture in the papers. This plays out hilariously, as his crazy schemes aren't newsworthy.
