Minnesota is the heartland of US hockey, creating more skaters--on the local rinks and in the NHL--than any other state. Here, the senior boys of rival towns--one an emerging dynasty, the other with a fabled past--face down uncertain futures as they skate for a last chance to etch their names into local lore. Where Texas football has Friday Night Lights, Minnesota high school hockey has Hockeyland.

Chris Hewitt Minneapolis Star Tribune Two huge gifts a documentary filmmaker can receive are access and good timing. "Hockeyland" director Tommy Haines had both. Rated: 3/4 Sep 8, 2022 Full Review Sarah Boslaugh TheArtsStl ...enjoyable enough if you’re happy with a film that stays resolutely on the surface of its story and sticks to the tried-and-true sports movie playbook, but don’t come looking for anything you haven’t seen before. Rated: 6/10 Dec 8, 2022 Full Review Michael J. Casey Boulder Weekly Though a few players stand out, "Hockeyland" is more about the team, the game and the towns than it is about the individual. Rated: 3.5/5 Oct 13, 2022 Full Review Rob Thomas Capital Times (Madison, WI) I won’t spoil who wins and loses. But by the end of “Hockeyland,” you’ll be rooting for all of them. Rated: 3/4 Oct 4, 2022 Full Review Steven Prokopy Third Coast Review It’s near impossible not to get caught up on the fervor of it all, and we’re simply observers; imagine living this life—that’s what this movie does. Rated: 3/4 Sep 19, 2022 Full Review Stephen Silver Tilt Magazine The filmmakers have told a compelling story about a very specific place, even while not straying far from documentary formula.
