I liked it. Maybe if I was an avid reader of the Discworld books, I would absolutely adore this film but I did still think this was an enjoyable offbeat Christmas film. The parts of the story focusing on the Downton Abbey lady are fine and while I wasn't entirely invested in Mr. Teatime's villainy, I can't deny that the actor was clearly having fun but you know what the best part of Hogfather was? Death taking on the titular role. It had the wittiest humour, most heartwarming moments, thought-provoking themes and sheer entertainment value out of the three stories this made-for-TV two-parter has to offer. The characters' stories all come to a head in the climax for a worthwhile pay-off, with Death and his granddaughter having a fun dynamic and the latter having a good showdown with that lad with the eccentric accent. All in all, I think this was a good adaptation of one of Terry Pratchett's most beloved novels in his iconic literary series but I can't help but wonder if I would've gotten more into it if I was more invested in the Discworld series, which fortunately don't punish anyone who reads them out of order from what I've heard.

Hogfather is not just a great Christmas movie, it's a wonderful film that can be watched at any time of the year and is not tied to any religion. It is a story about belief itself that features the deep philosophy, brilliant storytelling, and sharp witted humor that characterizes the work of the late Sir Terry Pratchett. Fans will appreciate the nearly word perfect adaptation of the original work, and newcomers will enjoy a unique and moving story that is an ideal introduction to the fantastic Discworld series. If great acting, intriguing story, excellent writing, and a loveable depiction of the anthropomorphic personification of Death appeal to you then you will love Hogfather.

I think majority of people who didn't like this movie weren't capable of understanding it. If you're looking for a Christmas movie that takes more intellect than something like Scrooged, this is it.

This is the first I've heard of this movie or story. Obviously I'm way behind the times but I discovered it on Acorn TV (2020). I have not read the books but I loved the film. Loved the wizardly atmosphere, the sets, the characters and story. I look forward to watching it again and hope it remains available.
