The director manages to really make the main characters come to life with all their flaws and ambiguities. It's an amazing achievement. See more Feb 8, 2021 Loved the film, especially Ryan Corr's performance as the late Tim Conigrave. I know that on one can ever replace Heath Ledger as the most talented actor to come out of Australia in the 21st century, but damn, Corr comes tantalizingly close. This is more of a showcase for his gifts and he gets a chance to run the gamut of emotions; Craig Stott isn't given a lot to do as Caleo, other than react to Tim Conigrave (Corr). He's underused here. A rather handsome young man, one wants to see what else he is capable of as an actor. Their best scenes together are in the early days of the Tim/John romance; the love scenes are romantic and their expression of puppy love is quite sweet and moving. The film structure is a bit hard to follow, jumping from the 70s to the 80s, back to the 70s and then to the 90s, but the overall heart of the film is so strong and you know how tragic it will become, you almost don't want the film to move forward towards the AIDS epidemic (which it does, without mercy) and towards its devastating conclusion.
