Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) Rather than carefully weaving Coen-esque absurdity with Hitchcockian thrills, it jumps from one to another without care. Rated: 2.5/5 Apr 22, 2025 Full Review Robbie Collin Daily Telegraph (UK) The journey there is worth taking, but it’s hard not to wish that Holland had gone a little madder, or attacked its themes a little harder, rather than building itself such a neat escape route. Rated: 3/5 Apr 4, 2025 Full Review Clarisse Loughrey Independent (UK) Andrew Sodorski’s script, which has bounced around Hollywood for a decade, has come out a half-baked mess. Cave’s role is to toss a layer of visual irony over it all and hope no one notices. Rated: 2/5 Apr 1, 2025 Full Review Valerie Kalfrin AWFJ.org more half-baked than satisfying. ... HOLLAND aims for the rotting picket fences of fare like Twin Peaks, but its quirks seem like quirks for quirk’s sake May 28, 2025 Full Review Tom Meek Cambridge Day Kidman and Macfadyen make “Holland” more watchable than it should be. nick s For the most part this movie was a quality production with good acting (a pleasantly naturalistic performance from Kidman whose work has matured in recent years), good camera work and a fairly sharp script. The dream sequences were an unnecessary distraction for the sake of being arty but I was okay to let that slide. Then the ending came... what a way for the wheels to fall off the wagon. Everything was overcooked including an absurd Friday the 13th ending. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/28/25 Full Review Francis S While the script appears poor and banal, it's the director that misses here. No sense of genre, random visual rendition of a plastic reproducing the town without a statement of some sort, and no use of the picture to reveal something about these characters. They appear stupid. I'm sure the script could get better justice in someone else's hands. Nicole Kidman SHINES. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/28/25 Full Review Andrei D Kidman is fascinating to watch but the plot does not make sense because it tries too hard to walk the line between real and supernatural Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/16/25 Full Review Jean m I was really looking forward to this movie, given the calibre of the actors but found the storyline mostly boring until we find out the husband is a serial killer. Given the evidence against him the husband would have easily been put in jail. It's just lame. The character's could have been fleshed out but no it was still tedious to watch. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/15/25 Full Review Gage H The acting in this movie is great & this Nicole Kidman resurgence is now something I am on board for. While the plot is interesting & the misdirection is fun to investigate.. the pace of the move followed by some lack of detail may lose some people. If you’re not in a rush, this is a fun watch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/30/25 Full Review Christian K A stale, small town thriller that plays it straight down the middle for its duration.
