Overloaded with quirk and recycled twists, Holland's impressive style can't paper over a hollow script.

Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) Rather than carefully weaving Coen-esque absurdity with Hitchcockian thrills, it jumps from one to another without care. Rated: 2.5/5 Apr 22, 2025 Full Review Robbie Collin Daily Telegraph (UK) The journey there is worth taking, but it’s hard not to wish that Holland had gone a little madder, or attacked its themes a little harder, rather than building itself such a neat escape route. Rated: 3/5 Apr 4, 2025 Full Review Clarisse Loughrey Independent (UK) Andrew Sodorski’s script, which has bounced around Hollywood for a decade, has come out a half-baked mess. Cave’s role is to toss a layer of visual irony over it all and hope no one notices. Rated: 2/5 Apr 1, 2025 Full Review Asia Frey Lagniappe (Mobile, AL) But we finally hit a dud with Amazon Prime’s “Holland.” Lest the sight of her preternaturally tight face peeking out from a Dutch cap intrigue you, I must warn you that it’s not very good and it’s actually kind of unpleasant. Rated: D Sep 27, 2025 Full Review Marta Medina mundoCine Holland is hardly what we expected from Mimi Cave after her very promising debut, Fresh, especially considering its excellent cast and the strong promise of a mystery thriller that ends up being a bland and dull afternoon movie. [Full Review in Spanish] Rated: 2/5 Aug 22, 2025 Full Review Matthew Koss The Wandering Screen (YouTube) Ultimately, Holland is a bold second feature for Mimi Cave, who proves herself a talented director. While the script falters and some of the period details don’t quite land, the film is still a chilling, suspenseful ride. Rated: B Aug 17, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

bob c A mess that I had to leave Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/27/25 Full Review Audience Member I watched this way longer than I should have, like a bad meal I kept eating more bites thinking it might get better. I stopped after about an hour, which for all practical purposes is an hour of my life I will never get back. I can't even recommend this if somebody paid me to watch it, sad because I expect more from Nicole Kidman which is the only reason I turned it on in the first place! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/27/25 Full Review Larisa R It is a great movie 🎥! I don’t know why the rating is so low. This movie is much better and 100 times more interesting than a movie that got 5 Oscars recently. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/24/25 Full Review G G R I am giving this movie 1 Star because at least she killed her serial killer husband at the end. WTF? I want my 110 minutes back!! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/24/25 Full Review Jay S Had high hopes for this as a thriller. Took way too long to set up, then just got bad and ridiculous (like a horror movie where the victim runs back into the killer's house!). Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/17/25 Full Review Thomas B Holland harkens back to a time when movies weren't just drivel recorded by digital media and tossed up on a screen to entertain and amused. This is a film that requires the audience to think, presents questions that don't have clear answers, and asks viewers to recognize subtle psychological turns that many who will criticize the movie will be too ADHD to grasp. The acting is excellent and the cinematography is extraordinary. Where the film struggles to entertain is the pacing. It fails to build tension as successfully as I would like. And frankly, it just isn't what modern audiences are accustomed to. What it does do, is move you through the story in a way that emphasizes the confusion a suburban housewife would feel if she discovered that her dependable and straight-laced husband was a serial killer! Holland creates the angst in its viewers that mirrors the emotions the characters are feeling. Today's audiences have been pulled into accepting formulaic crap for entertainment. Gone are the days when the silver screen was the frame for "Art", with stories that inspired us to be better, revealed flaws in society, and made us think outside of our conditioning. "Holland" is a challenge to that complacency. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/12/25 Full Review Read all reviews
