Overloaded with quirk and recycled twists, Holland's impressive style can't paper over a hollow script.

Wenlei Ma The Nightly (AU) Rather than carefully weaving Coen-esque absurdity with Hitchcockian thrills, it jumps from one to another without care. Rated: 2.5/5 Apr 22, 2025 Full Review Robbie Collin Daily Telegraph (UK) The journey there is worth taking, but it’s hard not to wish that Holland had gone a little madder, or attacked its themes a little harder, rather than building itself such a neat escape route. Rated: 3/5 Apr 4, 2025 Full Review Clarisse Loughrey Independent (UK) Andrew Sodorski’s script, which has bounced around Hollywood for a decade, has come out a half-baked mess. Cave’s role is to toss a layer of visual irony over it all and hope no one notices. Rated: 2/5 Apr 1, 2025 Full Review Maxance Vincent The Cinema Spot Unfortunately, this muddled affair is only worth watching for one specific element: director of photography Pawel Pogorzelski’s staggering cinematography. Rated: 2/5 Jul 11, 2025 Full Review Valerie Kalfrin AWFJ.org more half-baked than satisfying. ... Sharon S. Dumb! I hate stupid characters and ambiguous endings. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/11/25 Full Review Jill C Stinker! Boy howdy, what a stinker-- but I watched it on a flight and it passed the time. Really good for that. At least it was a laughable stinker. Nicole has never been more awful and Gael... I can't figure out why he took this on. And you'll never see Matthew in a worse role. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/02/25 Full Review Rotten P Holland boasts a strong central performance from Nicole Kidman and an evocative atmosphere, but its potential is quickly squandered by a muddled script, inconsistent pacing, and a third act that leans too far into implausibility. Stylish yet emotionally hollow, the film struggles to balance its psychological intrigue with coherent storytelling, ultimately leaving its themes underdeveloped and its mystery unsatisfying. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/08/25 Full Review Ronnie P I found the pacing slow and the story unengaging. The characters didn’t capture my interest, and I struggled to connect with them. The ending felt unresolved, leaving me wondering what actually happened Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/08/25 Full Review Troy C I beg to differ. Everyone - EVERYONE? - took a dump on this one, but I found it fun and charming and surprising. The characters are excellent and the surreal tone is wonderful, even if t looks like the script got chopped up and the editing confused. Kidman and Bernal have a loveable, offbeat comic and romantic chemistry, if disappointingly underdeveloped. I never knew Kidman could be so funny. Gotta give this thing a 3, just for this alone. And Kidman - astronomical beauty, yes, even at this age - looks adorable with her messy hairdo and her daffy expressions. And the left turn with her husband's grisly dark side is a nice twist - shades of "Something Wild" - if weirdly underdeveloped. And their thriller/comic caper trailing the husband, very "Burn After Reading," if underdeveloped. And the last twenty minutes feels like a bush league let-down, especially the "dream" ending. What this baby needs is a more developed script. But, c'mon, the Kidman-Bernal team MUST be repeated. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/06/25 Full Review Jerod S Holland's best trait was that it was bizarre-o; Kidman trying to figure out what her husband was actually up to. It didn't have much else going for it, especially the dream cop out ending. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/05/25 Full Review Read all reviews
