Overloaded with quirk and recycled twists, Holland's impressive style can't paper over a hollow script.

Rather than carefully weaving Coen-esque absurdity with Hitchcockian thrills, it jumps from one to another without care. Go to Full Review

The journey there is worth taking, but it’s hard not to wish that Holland had gone a little madder, or attacked its themes a little harder, rather than building itself such a neat escape route. Go to Full Review

Andrew Sodorski’s script, which has bounced around Hollywood for a decade, has come out a half-baked mess. Cave’s role is to toss a layer of visual irony over it all and hope no one notices. Go to Full Review

But we finally hit a dud with Amazon Prime’s “Holland.” Lest the sight of her preternaturally tight face peeking out from a Dutch cap intrigue you, I must warn you that it’s not very good and it’s actually kind of unpleasant. Go to Full Review

Holland is hardly what we expected from Mimi Cave after her very promising debut, Fresh, especially considering its excellent cast and the strong promise of a mystery thriller that ends up being a bland and dull afternoon movie. [Full Review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Ultimately, Holland is a bold second feature for Mimi Cave, who proves herself a talented director. While the script falters and some of the period details don’t quite land, the film is still a chilling, suspenseful ride. Go to Full Review

TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch 1d Holland aims to be a suspenseful thriller, but it falls apart almost immediately. Even with Nicole Kidman leading the cast, the film never finds its footing. The screenplay is the biggest issue—messy, incomplete, and constantly drifting without any real structure or payoff. Scenes feel disconnected, and the story never builds tension or emotional weight. The actors aren’t terrible, but there’s no chemistry or sense of commitment, making every performance feel flat and uninterested. The direction only worsens things, offering no vision, pacing, or atmosphere to hold the film together. What should have been intense and gripping instead becomes dull, bleak, and frustratingly unfocused. In the end, Holland isn’t suspenseful, entertaining, or even mildly engaging. It’s simply a film that misses every mark and fails to justify the talent involved. See more Avindu G Nov 16 Holland presents the ultimate logic of nature. It treats us with two parallel stories one could be considered the dramatized fiction and the other on our fixation to comfort and negligence of happiness. Great colourful theme of Nancy's routine is contrasted with subtly growing darkness upto the great revelation. Excellent visual effects to expeess the dilemma every character face. Great audio effects to amp up the tension. Flawless performance by Nicole and the rest of the cast. It would be a shame to miss out on this great movie. The climax and ending are just ridiculous at best See more bob c Aug 27 A mess that I had to leave See more Aug 27 I watched this way longer than I should have, like a bad meal I kept eating more bites thinking it might get better. I stopped after about an hour, which for all practical purposes is an hour of my life I will never get back. I can't even recommend this if somebody paid me to watch it, sad because I expect more from Nicole Kidman which is the only reason I turned it on in the first place!
