Audience Member My first review on Rotten Tomatoes after having being off-put by some of the critics, both professional and not, who not only racialize--or even culturalize- the actors (I still have never seen a "white" or "black" person--just many shades in between), but appear ignorant about threesome films, while claiming the opposite. However, the slice-of-life "Holly Slept Over" nailed it, all while being light and entertaining. It is NOT a porno (which I revile), but is instead sharply written, effortlessly acted and unapologetically realistic: suburban neighbours who are friends share their most personal problems regarding their semi-dysfunctional marriages (anyone married knows what I'm talking about), with witty banter and often twisted, well-meaning advice. When Holly, (played by Nathalie Emmanuel) comes to visit her long-lost friend who is trying to get pregnant--and was once intimate with her--the movie soars. And a star is born. Ms. Emmanuel, a British actress who is also Dominican, lights up the screen with her raw sensuality, empathy, and to be frank, unique beauty, all of which draw the viewer instantly in. But it's the moments of intense awkwardness which really take the work to the next level of authenticity, even in the inevitable ménage a trois scene. Things rarely go as smoothly as they are fantasized, especially for the man. Or so I'm told. My only disappointment was that this just-under 90 minute movie was so riveting, it seemed to go by way too fast...I wanted to hang out with these five very real humans much longer, especially during a Pandemic. 4/5. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member A horrible presentation of poor communication, mysogynistic and controlling marriage relationships and the objectification of a young, attractive Black Woman unicorn. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Lindsey A Awesome movie! Incredible acting. I fell in love with the heroes during the movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/14/20 Full Review Audience Member Fun at times. Uncomfortable cringey moments, sometimes in a good way or just realistic horror at the situation. Strong characters that have an arc, you learn about them as they learn about themselves, not an ordinary film. The ending is a bit abrupt to me. It was nicely tied up but left me wanting more. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Very funny to start. Stays fun throughout as it begins to ask questions of married couples who may be worried about past discretions. But felt let down in the end, just the way it ended. It did make me realize that I've seen Britt Lowery in multiple shows, and she's fantastic. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member A film that seems far more genuine about marriage and sex than most movies on the subject....its ending doesn't really land and it likely needed about one more act. The performances are pretty stellar. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
