More than a movie star murder mystery, Hollywoodland takes it slow in order to reveal the intriguing details of the rise and fall of superstar fame.

Eye C This is the best performance from Affleck as an actor. Great thriller, sad story and intriguing truth. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/17/24 Full Review Test T It's not that there's anything wrong with it, but this film feels far too serious and ordinary to be entertaining. It could be because the story is about issues within the film industry, and is trying to be objective. I'm not sure what I was expecting from a film about a suicide, but I did not enjoy this. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/06/23 Full Review donnie m i WANTED to keep watching but the gum chewing of Adrien Brody drove me crazy and he's overly dramatic in EVERYTHING he says and does-even the way he walks and worst acting i've seen for Ben Affleck who's trying to sound like Jimmy Stewart Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/07/23 Full Review Gareth v This is an overly complicated murder mystery that lacks one thing. A mystery. In the end it's a bit of a dull and lacklustre affair. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/19/23 Full Review Billy H This is a great film, by far Ben's best superhero movie. It's a tale of a sad time in Hollywood's history that anyone that likes history or a good spin on a story would like. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member Well acted but the mystery is less intriguing as it goes on with not many answers. Greydanus Decent Films Rated: C- Oct 29, 2008 Full Review Brian Tallerico UGO May not have all the answers about the death of one of the icons behind the big red 'S,' but by gathering one of the better ensembles of the year, it makes the legend interesting again. Mar 24, 2007 Full Review Ian Nathan Empire Magazine Frustratingly ambiguous as a thriller, Coulter's strong debut should be approached as a disturbing parable on the nature of fame. Rated: 3/5 Dec 30, 2006 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com It starts out with great promise then bursts to life with great energy and style only to end with more questions than answers. Rated: 2.5/4.0 Sep 10, 2020 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy A handsome picture. The performances are uniformly fine (particularly Affleck's). Rated: 3/4 Aug 31, 2020 Full Review Micheal Compton Bowling Green Daily News Hollywoodland doesn't have that extra oomph to make it a special film, but it is solidly crafted and acted.
