Critics Consensus

Home Alone's uneven but frequently funny premise, stretched unreasonably thin, is buoyed by Macaulay Culkin's cute performance and strong supporting stars.

This is going to be a big hit with the kids. Word will get out in the schoolyard that Home Alone is really funny. Just don’t let the kids near the iron after they’ve seen it. Go to Full Review

Using split-second editing, playfully choreographed violence and exaggerated responses such as the bug-eyed double take, director Chris Columbus has created a live action comedy in the style of a Warner Bros cartoon. Go to Full Review

Without being the least bit schmaltzy or cloying, Home Alone manages to impart the holiday spirit. Its saving grace is an unexpected vein of irreverent humor that verges on the black. Go to Full Review

Caleb S. @review-person-friend77 3h This movie gets an extra half star for being nostalgic. Every kid wishes they were as clever as Kevin, meaning that every kid will love this movie. The story is simple, and so is the message, but sometimes we need to remember that family is one of the most important part of Christmas. Will show my kids when they are older. See more Jack S. @thebestauthor 5h This Christmas movie is amazing and I recommend it! The part where Marv and Harry get beaten up by all of that stuff is sooooo funny!!!😆 See more Howie B @Howie10 14h 35 years young! This movie re-released in cinemas in Australia to mark the anniversary was as entertaining today as it was back in 1990. A packed Gold Class theatre was in stitches and the laughter flowed throughout. Unsure what the young kids present made of landline telephones which are such an essential part of the plot, but they loved the slapstick comedy scenes. It really is sooo much better on the big screen with an audience to connect with. See more London B. @movienerd8 1d (Re-watch) A true classic See more Natasha R 1d This is a holiday classic. Should adult men be trying to harm a child just to rob his house? No. Are the parents a bit neglectful? Yes. Should you give this movie a try for the holidays? Absolutely!
