With a ridiculous story and an obnoxious main character who's harder to root for than the "villains," Home Sweet Home Alone is no fun for the whole family.

Clarisse Loughrey Independent (UK) This really shouldn't be hard: find a cute kid (and they have, in the form of Jojo Rabbit's Archie Yates), and then string together a few comically implausible ways to injure another human being. Rated: 1/5 Nov 12, 2021 Full Review Brian Lowry CNN.com Home Sweet Home Alone is a very odd duck -- a movie that basically replicates the three-decades-old "Home Alone" template, but in a way that feels slightly weird and ill-conceived. Nov 12, 2021 Full Review Helen O'Hara Empire Magazine A defanged variation on the theme that doesn't commit hard enough to be silly fun, beyond a few chuckles. Rated: 2/5 Nov 12, 2021 Full Review Maxance Vincent InSession Film Its illogical plot comprised of three idiot protagonists, unfunny traps and jokes, and a recycled plot from the first Home Alone doesn't make it worthwhile... Justin David W Absolute TRASH. How are we supposed to root for a snotty little brat that stole from someone. Also why didn’t the couple just go to the police and report the doll stolen? How do people get funding for movies like this? Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/21/24 Full Review Audience Member I became a big fan of a robber, the kitty one💗 She played an act as a bad doll with a kid when he was home alone🎄 And she left fire burning up at the bottom of stairs🔥 Yeah, that was bad😈 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/17/24 Full Review Michael P I liked it when there was no remorse for burglars, but better than 4 and 5 to say the least. Traps were subpar for a night Home alone. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/15/24 Full Review Birithivy Y Home Sweet Home Alone - 1/10. Dan Mazer directs this horrid and sorry sequel to the beloved Home Alone series. Though the first two films, Home Alone and Home Alone 2 Lost In New York, are the best and more respected films in the franchise, the rest of the films have been either mediocre or just plain bad. This one happens to be so bad and so far removed from being good, it feels like a unintentional parody. Its quite a shame that talents like Ellie Kemper, Rob Delaney, Archie Yates, and Aisling Bea have starred in a mess of a movie like this. They deserved a good film, and what they ended up being in a desecration to a beloved holiday classic. When a couple has to face selling their home to make ends meet, the father discovers that a possession from his mother could possibly help them keep the home. However, due to a misunderstanding, they believe a young boy has taken it, and they go to try retrieve that possession. As they do, the boy sets up dangerous and brutal traps, trying to fend himself while being left inadvertently alone. With some references and a direct connection to the original, this film feels like something rushed to be made to capitalize on the original film’s 30+ years of nostalgia. This is the lowest rating I’ve given a film since I started reviewing stuff. I know that viewing this in comparison to the originals is unfair, but its inevitable. The story is turned so that the film focuses a lot on the robbers (why?). The original films made hilarious robbers who had their tables turned because of underestimating the child that they are robbing from. However, in this movie, the kid is made to be like the spawn of satan. He makes these traps and all, and instead of aiming for laughter and making cartoonish scenes, the scenes of peril feel a little too real. The original film’s home was really well used in the traps, but this film the house seems so compact even though its a mansion. The original had a purposeful premise, whereas this film doesn’t seem to have a proper purpose. The misunderstanding is infuriating as well. The ending makes you think: why in the hell did I watch this and how can the characters’ change their minds like that? Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/27/24 Full Review Luke R I don't like this movie but it's so stupidly funny in my opinion to where I kinda like it. That being said, there is no heart in this movie and there isn't really a story either.
