Jake Wilson Sydney Morning Herald ... Homebound may be a little too modest to score big at the Oscars. Still, where craft is concerned, it’s a more credible contender than most. Rated: 3/5 Sep 26, 2025 Full Review Leslie Felperin Guardian While non-Indian viewers may be somewhat confused by some of the habits and customs, you can work out what’s important as it goes along; it’s admirable that the film isn’t dumbed down or sanitised for westerners. Rated: 4/5 Sep 24, 2025 Full Review Siddhant Adlakha Variety The first time in ages that a mainstream Hindi-language production has felt vital Jul 8, 2025 Full Review Anna M.M. Vetticad The Economic Times (India) Apart from its exploration of caste, Homebound is noteworthy for its empathy towards Muslims in a decade in which Hindi cinema has unabashedly demonised the community. Sep 28, 2025 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix Homebound strikes the right balance between showing how prejudices can affect everyday lives and making social commentary that isn't a lecture. The acting performances are exemplary in this meaningful drama about friendship that defies bigotry. Sep 27, 2025 Full Review Nandini Ramnath Scroll.in Homebound not only exposes embedded bias through the prism of the job hunt but also shows that the burden of understanding, empathy and adjustment is borne by the ones who suffer the most. AB Good acting, but generalizing a corner case scenario and portraying everything negative about India doesn't resonate with me at all! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/29/25 Full Review Sapna M Brilliant Fil making and acting! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/28/25 Full Review Mridul M Great acting in a poignant story Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/26/25 Full Review Parantap P I started out really enjoying the movie, but as it went on I realized it leaned heavily on the drama of fringe cases, often portraying worst-case scenarios. The acting is outstanding and the direction is superb, yet the story felt overly brooding when a touch more optimism could have made it truly well-rounded. Still, it remains a compelling tale of friendship. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/30/25 Full Review Saurabh G Formula Filmmaking is bane of cinema; it is a pity that filmmakers continue to chase it. Homebound is the latest in the series and does find a novel way to show us the glorified lies, no matter how threadbare some of them may have now gotten. Contrary to the story and oft peddled narrative, it is the general category majority community that has suffered the worst form of discrimination and deprivation due to reservations. Who could deny the fact that despite scoring much higher at every step of the ladder, it's the General category majority that has been systematically disenfranchised from all walks of life. Doomed, despite the merit. Deprived, despite the much higher contribution in every domain. And Disregarded, despite no fault. Stripped off opportunities to learn, and to be employed. Be it a seat in the university or an eligibility criteria to even apply for qualifying exams, it is the General category majority that has been denied their due and left to helplessly look at the underserving candidates who capture their places riding the tsunami of reservations and political appeasement. But rather than highlighting this discomforting reality, unfortunately the filmmaker distorts it and seems to be serving a political narrative that only blinds the audiences to the truth. Eventually it becomes hard to tell if we are watching a movie in a theatre, Or rather listening to the speech of some political heirs who, in a changing world, are trying hard to somehow divide majorities using newer caste narratives, and using victimhood cards to instigate the others, only to keep their caste based empires in existence. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 09/28/25 Full Review Mirza M 'Homebound' is a heartfelt yet devastating portrait of friendship and prejudice that perfectly captures the struggles and the silent strength it takes to survive.
