Critics Consensus

Smart, stylish, and nail-bitingly tense, Honeymoon packs more slow-building horror than many bigger-budget productions.

Perri Nemiroff Screen Rant Janiak does find a great deal of success turning that dreamy romance on its head, plunging her leads into a nightmarish scenario and ensuring you'll never forget what happened to them. Jan 5, 2015 Full Review A.A. Dowd AV Club For those who have ever nursed suspicions that the answer is "not enough," Honeymoon will inspire chills much more bone-deep than the ones provoked by, say, some poltergeist flinging around chairs. Jan 5, 2015 Full Review Mark Kermode Observer (UK) Janiak's directorial debut makes confident use of limited resources to conjure creepy thrills, peering through the cracks in the couple's imploding relationship, spying shadowy monsters lurking in the darkness. Rated: 3/5 Sep 28, 2014 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh Horror films focusing on alien intruders can often only be so effective, and while Honeymoon isn't a complete success, the lead performances and Leigh Janiak's direction manage to elevate a story that would be otherwise dismissed. Rated: 3/5 Sep 20, 2023 Full Review Jordy Sirkin Jordy Reviews It Honeymoon is a twisted, unpredictable horror thriller that will leave you shocked in the end. Jan 2, 2021 Full Review Kristy Strouse In Their Own League Leigh Janiak creates a film that's quite visually disturbing at times, ensuring you'll squirm by the end, but it is also heavy with despair and desperation. Audience Member Even 10 years later it’s really a disturbing, psychologically unnerving film about holy matrimony and how it starts to fall apart the cast is unknown but this couple couldn't be happier after just getting married and spending a quiet weekend at the lake in the woods unfortunately, things start to get strange when Bea goes into the woods one night and ends up with strange corrosions on her thighs her husband Paul is desperate to find an answer of what happened this movie makes you flinch once you see the reveal of the trauma caused but thankfully this sort-of-low-budget flick uses dark shadows, bright lights, and thoughts that go back and forth was it a stranger? a monster? an alien? or a ghost? it's very sad seeing this couple go at each other's throats deciding what's the bigger concern another rare gem of a horror movie that doesn't have to get by using cheap scare tactics and big special effects the mind is a scary place when you start to doubt who your significant other is and why they are that way with it being just the two of them things spiral out of control in their relationship a creepy crawler of a movie Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/13/24 Full Review Angela E Don't waste your time. It was awful. I'd rather go to the dentist. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/02/24 Full Review Andy B Not a terrible film by any means, but too much setup and not enough payoff equals a rather unsatisfying experience. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/29/23 Full Review Jennifer C Acting was awkward and amateur, accents were awful. Dialogue was cheesy and unrealistic. Plot was dragged out and frustrating. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/30/23 Full Review Jelisije J A movie that left me a lasting impression and ultimately left me wanting more at the end of the day. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/13/23 Full Review Renee D It's not a bad movie but starts getting annoying in the middle. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/28/23 Full Review Read all reviews
