Audience Member I prefer the game Hong Kong 97 Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member An almost unbelievably bad film will little to no coherent plot. There's only three reasons you may be watching this guns, explosions and boobies. This is a throwaway light night film that's best watched while completely sloshed. The basic gist of the story is that Reg Cameron (Robert Patrick) is a hitman in Hong Kong the last day before the British handover to China. He carries out one last hit on a Chinese General but finds (guess what) that he's been betrayed by his own side. Cue gun fights and explosions as Reg attempts to find out what's going on, who betrayed him and eventually escape Hong Kong. It really is as dull plodding and predictable as it sounds. With the pointless nudity and senseless gunfights being the only specks of interest in this great turd of a film. As you would expect all the predictable plot twists turn up and you will consider why you didn't do something better instead. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member In Hong Kong Reggie Cameron is a mercenary, who has just killed a general and now there is a bounty on his head. Co-worker and mentor Simon (Brion James) and innocent friend Jack (Tim Thomerson) try to help Reggie, before clock hits midnight and the power of Hong Kong goes back to China. Robert Patrick is pretty wooden as the cold assassin, so it's up to Brion James and Tim Thomerson to bring some light humor to this action piece. Also starring Andrew Divoff as the co-employer. Directed by Albert Pyun and has some nice action scenes. Unrealistic, but still fun. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member The story is as far from the western mythological three act strtucture as it can get. It is just like in the Lone Wolf And Cub mangas. The main-character through out the entire film. In most Western films the hero is caught by the enemy and has to make a daring escapå. In Hong Kong 97 he just kkeps on firing those bullets... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a brilliant movie...either that or brilliantly bad...either way unforgettable. I watched it in the first place 'cos I totally was in love with Ming Na Wen (Joy Luck Club, Single Guy - tv show). Also starring liquid terminator guy (Robert Patrick) as an assasin in Hong Kong, China just before the city was handed over from British rule to the Chinese government. This movie (despite the lavish Hong Kong city-scape) reeks of "made for cable" with tons o' nudity (mostly female) and tons o' gunplay type violence. A great, great movie overall...never been released on dvd, and now plain hard to get...although I scored a vhs copy on e-bay for $1.00 american 2 or 3 years ago!
