Audience Member (****): A violent, bloody fun Shaw Brothers actioner. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member This heroic bloodshed gangster movie sees Shaw Brothers regulars Norman Chu and Leung Kar Yan as the good guys trying to fight off a rival gang. Things get bloodier and bloodier, until an over-dramatic fight scenes with bloody clothes, lightning, and an office building floor getting torn up. A pretty brutal ending also caps everything off in this casually entertaining movie, with surprisingly good acting chops from Leung Kar Yan. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Very typical for a film of its genre in Hong Kong. Actually, fits perfectly into a sub-genre with A Better Tomorrow -- this came out first but it's the same kind of film, both mid-80s, very violent, strong themes of loyalty, though HKG has a strange absence of guns, and John Woo would naturally have made a better film. The action in this film is really good though. It's quite intense, and though it was good enough going into the last 10 minutes, that finale was incredible. Half the budget for blood for the entire Shaw Studios might have been used in the making of this film. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member This was unexpectedly amazing and unintentionally funny! This is probably one of the last of the Shaw Brothers movies, which is a gritty Triad epic mixed with some kung fu mayhem. In what other movie do you get to see Triad members with rat tails, flying dogs and a little kid get his spine broken before he's thrown through a window? I think it was the bizarre Karaoke performance that was my favorite part, though. Bravo, Shaw Brothers. This is easily one of the studios best movies. It's also got the weird, alternate 1980's Shaw Brothers opening title that you don't see too often as opposed to the Shawscope one. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member The Club meets Police Story. A bit too kind with triads values but the very bloody action scenes make up for it. Typical Johnny Wang.
