gail p I love this little movie, a bit of corn but some great folks in it. Gracie Allen, (of Burns and Allen fame) is Eleanor Powell's ditzy girlfriend on a boat heading to Honolulu, yup. Robert Young in two roles is heading home to a Pineapple plantation, anxious to get to calm and quiet because he is impersonating the owner, who is taking his place as a much pursued movie actor in New York. This occurs when he finds him in his apartment after one of these attacks convinces him to switch places for a bit and he is now on the boat to Honolulu! Gracie spots him, tells Eleanor the actor is aboard, or is it the Pineapple king? Robert fancies Eleanor but supposedly has a fiancee in Hawaii, oops what a mess. Fine singing and dancing throughout. A fun musical treat. Lovely Hawaiian music and Ms. Powell's athletic dancing. Enjoy this gem. See how Robert works out the two look a-likes problems. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A pleasant date night movie, with solid cinematography, lighting, decor, and supporting actors. Perhaps the best little musical number is the one where Powell taps on glass while seated next to ukulele-playing Allen. Simple, effective, informative, yet still fun to watch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Lower-level MGM musical; Powell dances the hula and has a routine with a jump-rope, and Gracie lends fun support and sings "The Leader Doesn't Like Music." Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Lightweight but enjoyable musical comedy starting Eleanor Powell and Robert Young, who plays two parts (one a movie star wanting peace and another a Hawaiian plantation owner. However, it's George Burns and Gracie Allen who in my mind really steal the show. I used to love listening to old Burns and Allen radio shows and it was fun to hear them doing their funny schtick. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member good musical also marks the last screen appearance of burns and allen. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member wow another winner from THE year awesome job packed with stars & fun character actors, george & gracie pack my bags I'm goin!
