Deborah Ross The Spectator One of those films that is only as good as its stars. Luckily, in this instance, the stars are Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones. Sep 1, 2018 Full Review Tom Charity CNN.com Streep fans, I think you're going to enjoy this one. I know I did. Jan 8, 2013 Full Review David Denby New Yorker The film, a rehab job on a beached marriage, displays the most tender respect, the most exquisite tact, and yet it would be completely unwatchable -- an outright embarrassment -- with any other actors than Tommy Lee Jones and Meryl Streep. Jan 8, 2013 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com Tommy Lee Jones may very well steal the film with one of his most emotionally satisfying and complex performances. Rated: 3.5/4.0 Sep 11, 2020 Full Review PJ Nabarro Patrick Nabarro Is having Meryl Steep's character practising her fellatio technique on a banana really all the material they could come up with? Rated: 2/5 Oct 31, 2019 Full Review Kate Rodger Newshub (NZ) Felt the need for a lighter more cinematic touch with its delivery, a little more humour when suitable to sell the big scenes, but with less use of the soundtrack to sign-post the next emotional trigger point. Elaine D A gem. Wonderful performances from Tommy Lee Jones and Meryl Streep. Low key but riveting. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/25/24 Full Review B S Not sure why the low scorers were expecting hijinks and giggles and special effects. This is the most underrated movie ever. maybe because it is the most honest portrayal, of a long-term ,married couple, who let life and excuses and acceptance get in their way. Talk about being in a rut and being complacent about it. Kay decided to DO something about her life, her sadness her loneliness and wanted Arnold to find his way back as well. Tommy played Arnold perfectly and Meryl played Kate perfectly. The story line can be a wake call for many who have allowed themselves to fall and stay in a rut. Loved the storyline, loved the acting and i even like Steve in this movie. If the story doesn't resonate with you NOW… it could in the future. Kay found her voice and threw a Hail Mary to save her loveless marriage (that her husband had no clue was boring, unfulfilling, and depressing. He was happy to get the one fried egg, one alice of breakfast and coffee EVERY morning…. go Kay, find your happiness and IF it's with Arnold YAY! Love this movie so much! Highly recommend tor longterm couples… watch, listen and learn! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/24/24 Full Review KB B This was such a great film with exceptional acting and storyline. I mean come on, Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones who were both excellent choices for the leads. It's definitely worth the watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/16/24 Full Review Joe Superb performances, grownup content, funny, touching. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/12/24 Full Review Michael F This movie surpassed my expectations.
