Federico Furzan Movie-Blogger.com Horror in the High Desert is a very good example of doing things right by planning everything to the core and executing and editing with the only true intention to scare the wits out of those who find themselves trapped by the realism of this subgenre. Sarah H I loved this! I normally can’t stand mockumentaries, but I accidentally started watching it thinking it was a true crime documentary (thanks Amazon lol). Once I’d googled it I turned it off, but I’d already been hooked & had to go back to watch the rest the next day. Personally I thought the acting was really good for little known actors. Even knowing the whole thing was fake, they had me “sold” & invested in the story. I watch so many horror movies that it is truly difficult for one to scare me anymore, but the suspense of the final scenes was so intense that my stomach was uneasy. I did not think a kill scene or blood & gore were necessary because the horror was in the suspense. Really great film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/27/25 Full Review Angie P The ending definitely sold me. It's really well done and pretty scary. Overall, a solid, spooky documentary, even if it can get a little boring at some points. Still recommend! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/25/25 Full Review Cameron M A frustratingly slow, plodding, glacially paced film. The time we spend with Gary is fine, I wish we got more of that so we could get to know Gary firsthand. Instead it's the hour of mockumentary interviews wrapped around his story that frustrates. Characters will pause every 3 or 4 words in what begins to feel like a deliberate attempt to pad the runtime. The film will spend 8 seconds relishing in a reveal that you saw coming a mile away and are just waiting for the film to hurry up and get there. I think there is a story in here about people that feel more comfortable in the wild than in society and the consequences that comes with exploiting that, but it's executed so poorly that I can't tell if it was even intentional. Skip the first 50 minutes or watch with your finger over the fast forward button. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/07/25 Full Review Cannibal P Nothing happens in all "this false documentary "horror movie"", y just a false documentary where people talk about gary and a terrific found footage that you can't see, bored 🥱 Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/02/25 Full Review Christopher V It’s been done before and better. Aside from a one shot scare I felt like I was watching an episode of paranormal activity. And then you realize what the real horror is and it’s boring, In the end you don’t really care. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/24/25 Full Review Matthew M I think this was perfect. It’s a slow burn but the last 25 minutes of the movie is pretty scary. They show just the right amount of imagery of the weird people living out there. The interviews sound so real as well. I really enjoyed this and the other 2. Can’t wait for the 4th installment Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/14/24 Full Review Read all reviews
