Critics Consensus

Featuring lots of guts and gore, Hostel is a wildly entertaining corpse-filled journey -- assuming one is entertained by corpses, guts, and gore, that is.

Christy Lemire Associated Press Whether or not this kind of horror movie is your cup of tea, you have to at least admire Roth for the daring and creativity with which he illustrates that concept. Dec 29, 2006 Full Review Scott Tobias AV Club Hostel's merely unpleasant and more than a little dumb. Rated: C Nov 27, 2006 Full Review Simon Crook Empire Magazine The first act's filler, otherwise it's a squirmer. Bring a bucket. Rated: 3/5 Aug 2, 2006 Full Review Akos Peterbencze The Screen Inelegant, schlocky, and full-on? Sure. But it’s also a relentless B-movie hitting your nerves with a blood-soaked meat pounder. Apr 4, 2025 Full Review Justin Brown Medium Popcorn This movie is rough all around. The gore was well done and was something different we hadn't seen before in a horror film. Rated: 2/5 Apr 29, 2022 Full Review Brandon Collins Medium Popcorn I did not enjoy watching this at all. The decisions the characters made were nonsensical. I couldn't recommend this less unless over the top gore with little substance is your thing. Rated: 1/5 Apr 29, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Carter D If you can handle very gory horror movies, WATCH THIS! The whole movie is said by the creator to be a story about exploitation. It's amazing seeing this dummies be ass holes to everyone and then you really feel bad for one of them. You really want that guy to survive. Great movie... Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/06/25 Full Review Todd B An obscure, weird movie with torture scenes, but enjoyable. I loved every minute of it. I loved Jay, the Oli character, etc.. A good horror film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/17/25 Full Review Frank J It's a comedy movie...kinda Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/15/25 Full Review Nina E It's quick and to the point while also being suspenseful, though the beginning is just full of sex and partying, but wait, the second half is nonstop gore. I'll break it down to four parts...First act, sex, drugs and rock and roll. You become acquainted with the trio who I'll admit come across as spoiled dbags. Then they get bored with all the sex and drugs that Amsterdam has to offer and they hear that Slovakia parties even harder...Second act, kinda the boring part where they embark on the long journey and then get accustomed to the weirdness of Slovakia. Third act, the part people came for, nonstop gorefest!...Fourth act, I won't say anymore you have to watch it for yourself. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/07/25 Full Review Samm 2 Nothing special but an enjoyable horror movie. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/23/24 Full Review Audience Member Decent horror movie with Good acting had me on the edge of my seat Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/12/24 Full Review Read all reviews
