Anton Bitel Sight & Sound Beautifully shot by Vincent Vieillard-Baron with two very different lighting schemes (richly coloured past, arid present), this is a strange coupling of romance & horror... climactic confrontation between heroine & monster is both surprising & moving Nov 7, 2017 Full Review CJ Sheu Critics at Large [T]he melodramatic direction, tone-deaf dialogue, predictable plot, and overly intellectual transitions caused me to check out, mentally[.] Jun 30, 2020 Full Review Joshua Speiser Film Threat Fer Chrissakes, where were the producers whose job it is to steer a director away from such pretentious narrative cliffs? Rated: 5/10 Sep 6, 2018 Full Review Kat Hughes THN Quiet and well thought-out, Hostile is a new and interesting entry into the post-apocalypse story. Rated: 4/5 Aug 23, 2018 Full Review John Higgins Starburst There is a touching climax to the film ... a rarity in a movie that also features monstrosities roaming the desert like extras in The Descent, so worth sticking with for the duration. chip w I really enjoyed this movie. Glad I didn't read anything about it. The ending was a complete surprise to me. I recommend it! 👌 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/24 Full Review Craig B Hostile is an absolute gem of a horror story, with equal measures of horror and heart. Driven by an outstanding performance from lead Brittany Ashworth, there are many moments of tension and sheer terror in the film's short duration of 83 minutes. One of the keys to the film are the constant flashbacks to pre-apocalyptic times (which feature tremendous support from Grégory Fitoussi, who plays Jack), which provides an interesting contrast with the horrors Juliette endures in the present. Not be missed by horror fans, especially those who enjoy a film with a solid and well-formed backstory which has plenty of heart. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/14/24 Full Review Breno G Special Effects: 0,5/Sound Effects: 0,5/Acting: 0,0/Story: 0,0 Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/26/24 Full Review Dan J Interesting idea, but poorly executed. All the two lead characters did was argue throughout. Poorly written with terrible dialogue. Worth a watch if there's nothing else on, if just to see a different spin on a post apocalyptic film. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/19/23 Full Review Ronald M It's an ok little movie but it doesn't have a lot to it. It tries to do the fate/destiny thing but falls short of being any kind of profound… If it was fate then the point of their lives and deaths was to be completely pointless. With that failing all we are left with is a story of a girl surviving a night. The threat of the monsters did not justify the reactions of the people she talked to on the radio. They were mildly dangerous, but the human than attacked her was a much bigger threat so why did they worry about the monsters. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/16/22 Full Review Meydiana R 2 stories in 1 Fancied a horror so after reading the synopsis of this 2017 film which I'd never heard of, thought why not. Basically the film is set it to time lines, before and after and you know at some point they will converge but your never entirety sure until........ then it all falls into place. Strange film because of the 2 time lines, one a love story and the other a fight for survival, but the love story story for me was far from realistic but in the context of the underlying message carried by both story lines both acted as a way to get this message across. In out lives we may have to face our own monsters, real or events which we may not want to face but we know we have to do so, this film with the 2 story lines uses both real monsters and the monsters we may have to face in real life and joins then up in a way which made for a rather enjoyable watch.
