      Shaun E House by the Lake - an interesting story let down by poor camera work and inconsistent acting. The premise of the story is a girl who communicates with an imaginary friend who turns out to be less imaginary than the principle characters would like to believe. It is a low budget movie, and for that, it was very well made. I am not sure that it would have been quite so good without the excellent use of sound effects and Adam Barber's mostly excellent musical score. Amiah Miller does very well for a young actress, and I am certain that a stronger director could have made more of her character. Anne Dudek plays a neurotic mother, and come the end, her acting is convincing, but I did not buy into her character until well into the movie. There are also some things in this movie that would not make sense in real life, such as always leaving the doors open when your small child has a tendency to go sleepwalking. Michael Bowen plays Harry very convincingly, but the storyline here was weaker than it could have been. An interesting idea, well executed on a low budget, but sadly never reaching its full potential. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/17/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
