      Critics Consensus

There's an abundance of gore in this derivative horror movie, but little sense or wit.

Uriel Film is just to fun watch Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/21/23 Full Review Ben D This movie is not at all what i was expecting. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/24 Full Review Tammie B Love ALL Rob Zombie movies but house of 1000 corpses is my favorite! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/21/24 Full Review Lilith M It's a shame to say that I didn't enjoy this film. I had a lot of high hopes for it and they were washed down the drain as soon as I put it on. It's far too fast-paced and doesn't allow for much character depth, they're nothing more than 2D flesh beings with no personality. There was no clarity nor context for the goings on and it felt more like a messed-up fever dream than a film. There are only two features of this film that save it from a one star rating; Sid Haig's performance, and the set design. Whilst I didn't have a positive experience per say, I would watch this film again. I have hope that Rob Zombie's other films are better than this nightmare. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/24 Full Review Forged S Rob Zombie + horror move = no-brainer. Well, most times, this being one of them. A truly terrifying nod to '70s horror, made popular by the classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Rob Zombie's directoral debut stuck with me long after the credits rolled. I still quote lines from this movie 'till this day. Plus, side note, I was one of the lucky few to get a signed DVD copy from the man himself, after standing 5 hours in the rain. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/10/24 Full Review Marc Z This movie is many things. What it is not is ordinary and boring. It is shocking and chilling. It is very freaky and very scary at times. Rob Zombie is clearly a fan of classic horror and a greta filmmaker. While this movie is a modern and unique freak show it also is, in many ways, a tribute; an homage', to classic horror films-from Psycho to The Texas Chain saw Massacre and everything in between. The characters are over the top. The movie is well filmed and well edited. It has a good story and it is executed in classic style, but it scared the hell out of me at so many moments. It is Gross at times, as well. This movie haunted me for a long time. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Rated: 1/5 Sep 30, 2003 Full Review May Leitz Nyx Fears Even if it's not a great movie, I wish every horror movie were more like this movie. We'd all have a lot more fun come Halloween, squirming in a chair like we're meant to. Mar 19, 2024 Full Review Joe Lipsett Horror Queers Podcast More proof of concept of Zombie's capacity to embark on a directorial career than cohesive narrative, House of 1000 Corpses is more interested in its villains and homages to quintessential texts from Zombie's past. Bold, gritty, and often quite gross Rated: 3.5/5 Apr 16, 2023 Full Review James Croot Stuff.co.nz Using split screens, atmospheric and subversive music, 16mm and old film footage and the crowd-pleasing stalking camera, Zombie creates a visually-arresting molotov cocktail.
