What to Know

Critics Consensus

There's an abundance of gore in this derivative horror movie, but little sense or wit.

Ed Gonzalez Slant Magazine Rob Zombie's House of 1000 Corpses has nostalgia on its side but not much else. Rated: 2/4 Apr 28, 2014 Full Review Empire Magazine Rated: 1/5 Dec 30, 2006 Full Review Jamie Russell BBC.com A tour-de-farce of depressing inanity, that's unable to do anything more than offer a messy, incoherent pastiche of other, better movies. Rated: 1/5 Sep 30, 2003 Full Review May Leitz Nyx Fears Even if it's not a great movie, I wish every horror movie were more like this movie. We'd all have a lot more fun come Halloween, squirming in a chair like we're meant to. Mar 19, 2024 Full Review Joe Lipsett Horror Queers Podcast More proof of concept of Zombie's capacity to embark on a directorial career than cohesive narrative, House of 1000 Corpses is more interested in its villains and homages to quintessential texts from Zombie's past. Bold, gritty, and often quite gross Rated: 3.5/5 Apr 16, 2023 Full Review James Croot Stuff.co.nz Using split screens, atmospheric and subversive music, 16mm and old film footage and the crowd-pleasing stalking camera, Zombie creates a visually-arresting molotov cocktail. Uriel Film is just to fun watch Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/21/23 Full Review Matt R This movie is perfect. It may be the darkest most disturbing movie ever made. But for what it is, it’s perfect. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/22/24 Full Review One-Eyed Myra This movie is a masterpiece and I don't want to hear anybody saying otherwise. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/05/24 Full Review Audience Member Honestly If you aren't looking for a campy, gorey, or lewd-ish 70's horror movie- or if you aren't a edgy metalhead. Then this isn't really for you! Plot is okay?? I like the idea of how they got to the house, but personally I didn't watch it for the plot. I was there for the screams and gore (+ the music because that's literally how I found this movie lol). The gore is overdone but I like it that way. my favorite scene starts at 58:51 ------> subpar plot, great soundtrack, amazing for a Halloween movie night. :-) Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/20/24 Full Review Postal D otis is my husband trust Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/17/24 Full Review Yuri M Captain Spaulding is great Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/29/24 Full Review Read all reviews
