This is a fantastic movie. Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn at their best. I have no idea why it is rated so poorly. It is lovely, no r-rated jokes or raunchy yuck, just a Capraesque comedy classic. Just as good as Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, which was also excellent.

This film deserves a much higher rating than it presently has. The comedy premise is good and it doesn't fizzle out at any point. It's quaint, the little twists are clever and not predictable, and Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn are good in it. There are no big action scenes or spectacles, so perhaps it's the people who require that in every film who didn't like it? But I enjoyed it quite a bit. I wouldn't mind seeing it again sometime.

I usually like Steve Martin movies, and Goldie Hawn is fabulous too, so I thought this would be an ideal combination. Unfortunately, the formula doesn't work out as well I had hoped. It's not that it's a bad story, and some of the comedy works well. I particularly liked the subtle use of the pet dog to lighten the mood in some of the intense scenes. I think the problem lies with the somewhat verbose dialogue. We can all see what's going on, and most of us can fill in some gaps, but this script insists on narrating everones thoughts and feelings all the time, which just ain't funny. I found it quite annoying after a while, and some of the music became irritating as well. The other problem is the lack of chemistry between the leads. It's supposed to have a happy ever after ending, but you get the impression that neither actor is invested in their characters relationship. In summary, I'm glad I watched it for the parts I liked, but it is nothing special.
