Stephen Holden New York Times There is much more to be explored than this noble documentary, made on a tiny budget, has the resources to examine. Rated: 3/5 Feb 23, 2012 Full Review Joseph Jon Lanthier Slant Magazine Plays more like a trailer to the insurrection coming soon to our respective neighborhoods than a primer on Gene Sharp's work or its influence. Rated: 1/4 Feb 22, 2012 Full Review Mark Holcomb Village Voice The problem is, as doc-ready as Sharp's ideas might be, How to Start a Revolution isn't much of a movie. Audience Member Very informative, "From Dictatorship to Democracy," is a must read. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member I've just watched the film and am sitting here now with the fire of inspiration in my heart. This is a marvelous portrait of a man and the profound ideas that are changing the world. What I found particularly liberating was the fact that the people behind these great revolutions - Mr. Sharp included - are decidedly human. One often imagines that change of such grand scale can be conjured and led only by near-superhuman characters, historic figures of great and rare charisma. This film reminds us of Margaret Mead's conviction that it is ordinary people that change the world - and of course it is Gene Sharp that provides us with a set of tools and tactics that can help us do just that. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member How To Stick It To The Man. Every succesful protest, from Occupy Wall Street to Arab Spring, uses principles passed from clenched fist to clenched fist. If The Man ever sees this, he'll totally ban it, after the truth blows his mind. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews
