David Sims The Atlantic So much of The Hidden World is stuffed with filler material. But in certain wordless moments, this grand final entry really sings. Mar 1, 2019 Full Review Joe Morgenstern Wall Street Journal The film feels like it's flying on empty... This is clearly the end of the franchise, one that gave great pleasure and stayed on too long. Feb 26, 2019 Full Review Johnny Oleksinski New York Post The movie could easily be called "How To End Your Trilogy." Rated: 3/4 Feb 24, 2019 Full Review David Griffiths Subculture Entertainment Brilliant film. A great animation for the whole family. A wonderful way to end the trilogy. Rated: 3/5 Oct 29, 2024 Full Review JD Duran InSession Film Dreamworks may be best known for its Shrek series, but it’s How to Train Your Dragon that aligns them next to Pixar and Disney as creating some of the best animation to date. Rated: A- Aug 19, 2024 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review The Hidden World is easily the best-looking entry on visual terms, and the familiar plot and themes aren't so repetitive that the basic appeal of its boy-and-a-dog setup has lost its charm. Jade Coyote if you're a fan of other flims Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/07/22 Full Review Julie I haven't been to a theater in 20 years and my kids first time. Best experience I ever had. The seats were amazing and so was the popcorn! Can't wait until next week. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/01/21 Full Review Luci great show to watch with the family. loved it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/01/21 Full Review Elizabeth We have this movie at home but still love seeing it on the big screen! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/23/21 Full Review Jay W First gripe, why did they call this "How to Train your Dragon Hidden World" and not simply "How to Train your Dragon 3"? The previous one was just "How to Train Your Dragon 2" now the whole thing looks off when it is together as a trilogy. This is a real shame because this is one of the all-time great animated trilogies. It belongs on the pedestal right there with "Toy Story" and "Kung Fu Panda". You never know quite what to expect from Dreamworks. They are both the studio that brought us the masterpiece of "Prince of Egypt" and made the embarrassment that is "Shark Tale". Nothing will quite capture the surprise and awe that was the first "How to Train your Dragon", but the sequels are not a downgrade in quality. Although this is not my favorite of the trilogy, it was the one that made me want to own the trilogy on Blu-Ray. What helps with this franchise is that the characters grow and progress and people. They do not have to spend another movie learning the same lessons that they already learned. The villains are clever, but our heroes make clever decisions too. That being said, the villain does feel like just a rehash of the previous villain of the series. He's not bad, he just isn't all that memorable. I also don't like the ensemble cast of "Dragon" as much as I do in "Toy Story" or "Kung Fu Panda" But it is the connection between Toothless and Hiccup that makes these films work so well. The whole thing gets high recommendations from me. Now Dreamworks, do us all a favor and don't make this into a soulless live action remake. Just leave them dragons alone. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/21/24 Full Review Audience Member This movie is phenomenal. Such a great story and some great visuals to go along with it.
