Jacob B Gotta love how people gave Aardman flak for selling out when they made Flushed Away a CGI film when, as it turns out, they've always had more experimental media that departed from their preferred approach to animation. And unlike that film, this short being animated in a shadow puppet style was not because of time constraints and DreamWorks having a more hands-on role. Luckily, if you can set aside such concerns as this short DARING to not use the Wallace & Gromit art style, Humdrum is a really entertaining short. Possibly one of Aardman's most underrated ones thanks to the appealing animation and vocal performances that really sell the comedic angle of a very simple story about a duo stuck indoors in boredom with one being more pessimistic and the other, more dim-witted one having more enthusiasm. In fact, it's actually quite amusing to watch this in the 2020's and make a few jokes about lockdown getting to these guys. Impressive for something that only lasts 6 minutes and was treated as a side project by Aardman. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/03/24 Full Review Read all reviews
