I felt the same way, as Blood Rain's overly gory tone and nature left a little to be desired. It is a luscious looking murder mystery thriller, but other than the costumes and set design, this movie doesn't stick out from the pack in the murder mystery or period piece genre. While I was easily able to identify the protagonist, it wasn't quite the same with some other major characters. Although I was able to get the gist of the plot as the movie ended, it was difficult to remain involved with the mystery. May have enjoyed it more had I been not at loss.
