Nick M Harold Lloyd continues his foray into domestic comedies with I Do, which has him frantically trying to keep control of his house after his brother-in-law drops his two young children off unannounced. There are amusing moments (the slippers nailed to the floor got me), but much of the comedy is predictable, and I can't say that this represents his best work for this year. One unique aspect of this film is that they chose to animate one of the early scenes. There have been mixed media films like this before (the earliest I'm aware of is Émile Cohl's 1910 alcohol-induced fever dream Le songe du garçon de café), but none that I've seen from so prominent a studio. I'm also puzzled by the choice itself, as it felt like a jarring departure rather than a complementary sequence. Was it just for the novelty? Was it a blatant example of pandering to children so more families would go see the picture? Animation took *forever* at this stage of the game, so it wasn't just an idle lark. I'm curious.
