Steve D Solid film with a great cast. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Hedy's ravishing, Spence is stoic and Verree Teasdale is priceless in support but this is a muddled mess of a movie. However if you like glossy soap operas from Hollywood's golden age premier studio there are things to enjoy in this. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member It's a standard soaper about kindly doctor Spencer Tracy falling for troubled Hedy Lamarr. W.S. Van Dyke is the credited director, but the film apparently went through several directors and rewrites along the way before eventually seeing release two years after it was originally filmed. The only reason to watch this film is for Tracy and Lamarr, because the story is cliched and not at all compelling. The film does give Lamarr an opportunity to show that she does have some acting chops, as opposed to simply looking beautiful, which she does well and is unfortunately what a majority of her roles only seemed to provide. On another note, if you don't know much about Lamarr, she's a fascinating individual who actually patented a secret communication system involving frequency-hopping spread-spectrum that was later adopted by the US Navy, so she's certainly a lot more than just a pretty face. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member heddy+spencer+woody van dyke=soapy drama Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member I wouldn't dismiss this as a soap opera. The acting is right on key; the photography is perfect and W.S.Van Dyke does his usual superb work as director. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member I was forced to turn down other projects to take on this woman and I always regretted it.
