David Lewis San Francisco Chronicle The key to enjoying this film is parking your narrative instincts at the door and allowing the masterfully constructed sensual images to wash over you. Jun 30, 2020 Full Review Diego Semerene Slant Magazine If the film defies conventional form, it does so without the gravitas that conceptual cohesion brings, quickly rendering its experimentation into gratuitous aesthetic masturbation. Rated: 1/4 Aug 17, 2014 Full Review Nick Schager Film Journal International ...Hernandez merely revels in his own pretentiousness, staging one dully limp encounter after another with self-conscious camerawork and absurdly stilted drama that renders the entire project a pseudo-porny slog. Aug 15, 2014 Full Review Jorge (JJ) Negrete Butaca Ancha A film that is impeccable from a formal point of view, but that begins to stumble with the limits of its speech. [Full review in Spanish] May 26, 2017 Full Review Fr. Chris Carpenter Movie Dearest (Director Julian) Hernandez provides loads of sexy scenery but not much sense. The film is heavy on slow, sensual storytelling that more often than not demands viewers' intuition rather than offer clearly delineated characters and relationships. Audience Member Moves pretty slowly at times but the sex scenes are pretty intense! The emotions are expressed very genuinely by the actors. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/14/18 Full Review johann m A frustrated, austere-looking director that just doesn't give a shit about anything makes this movie an awful experience and a waste of time. Nothing interesting ever happens and it is just too slow and too long. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Such a boring film to have such beautiful young men playing in it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Story line didn't seem to flow. Lots of male nakedness. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Here´s not happiness. An empty review of some "clichés" on the mexican gay scene from the view point of a movie director that seeks young meet to fuck. (any similarities to director´s real life behavior and fame are merely coincidences). This is a predictable and stereotype filled movie with traditional roles about gay boys. A casting process obviously influenced more by smooth bubble butt sizes and less by acting skills and talent, resulting on a "soap opera like" cast of fancy faces and skinny pants that are not representative of mexican gay people´s life. Plenty of sex scenes without an argument, empty quotes and scenes that seems to be taken from some average midnight softporn movie at cinemax. If you want to have an erection (assuming that you are gay and you like young boy´s tiny tight asses) then rent it... If you are a common human being, gay or not, searching for a good story about other human being, gay or not, then just pass it by... Here´s nothing for you. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member No sé de dónde sigue sacando dinero este hombre para hacer sus aburridas, largas y malas películas.
