Anil Sinanan The Times (UK) If you ignore its flaws, I am Legend can be enjoyed as the perfect brainless Boxing Day blockbuster - but it is essentially a leftover festive turkey. Vishal J I heard a lot about the movie but its was disappointing. Overrated Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/09/25 Full Review Zach W. It has been a while since I have felt like a film was crafted specifically for me. First: I watched I Am Legend alone with my dog and it was certainly an unforgettable experience. Second: The amount of Bob Marley music and love is praiseworthy. Third: I have to admit that I love the concept of multiple endings as I watched both the Theatrical Release ending and the Alternate ending. Though the plot is extremely simple and certain plot details may not be fully explained, I Am Legend is a riveting science fiction film that encompasses heart and soul amidst a minimalist setting. Will Smith delivers a strong lead performance as Robert Neville and there are several moments throughout I Am Legend where Smith almost moved me to tears. Both emotional and exhilarating, I Am Legend builds its intensity through its inescapable sense of isolation. The audience gets to experience the daily activities of Neville and I Am Legend fully immerses the audience into a tense conflict between a sole survivor and haunting creatures that stalk the night. Between the two endings, I found the Alternate ending to be more thought provoking. Though the Theatrical ending is more definitive, the Alternate ending allows for the audience to draw their own conclusions. The Alternate ending also introduces more unique developments that challenge the entire premise of Neville’s actions. Regardless, both endings feel suitable for I Am Legend. Though the practical effects look slightly dated, director Francis Lawrence is still able to infuse heart, style, and personality into a zombie thriller. Will Smith was a great choice for lead actor and his ability to facilitate a connection with the audience is among some of the most impressive in Hollywood. Overall, I Am Legend is a constant reminder that impressive storytelling can make a film standout amidst an oversaturated genre. The performance from the dog has to be one of the best animal performances that I have ever seen. I Am Legend is definitely worthy of a sequel, but only if Will Smith and Francis Lawrence return. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/26/25 Full Review George M There are two good versions of Richard Matheson's brilliant novel, "I Am Legend", 1964's The Last Man on Earth and 1971's The Omega Man. When I sat through this pap, with it's generic zombie-vampires, I had to wonder: Did either the adapting writers or the Director even bother to read the book? This book screams out for a good and true adaptation. The best so far, is the four issue comic by the now defunct Eclipse comics. This trash, which ruins many of the great scenes from the book, isn't worth watching. It goes on the discard pile with other useless remakes like; The Day the Earth Stood Still and Spielberg's abominable War of the Worlds. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/13/25 Full Review Audience Member I am not a fan of Smith, but the movie was great... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/14/25 Full Review William R Samantha make me cry,how Anna and Ethan got into/out NYC,if it was to be isolated?,the house was well equip.,but knowing what was going on,why dont live in a bunker? Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/05/25 Full Review Audience Member I wanna talk about the ending of the movie, but I won't. It would overshadow a good movie and pretty good performances. Having Will Smith in the lead of the film made the movie. He was in control of the movie, selling the hole, fear and isolation that existed. His acts largely solo and manages to make you feel the desperation. There are some super sad moments in the movie, and it looks very bleak for the second half of the film. Then, the ending. Nothing I say will be any different than any else. Not sure why they got cute and changed it from the book. That's what's holding it back from a higher score.
