Feb 21, 2020 Full Review Noel Murray Los Angeles Times It's an exciting film to watch, but an even better one to think about after - preferably in the company of a real, physically present person. Jun 20, 2019 Full Review Karl Quinn The Age (Australia) It's rich material, handled brilliantly by first-time feature director Grant Sputore, a West Australian, working from an intelligently wrought screenplay from American Michael Lloyd-Green. Audience Member I think some movies make you think too much, which isn't a good thing when its nearing bed time. Mother, for its budget, did things quite well. It had just enough of everything and is definitely worth a watch. At times it felt like a low budget film. And at others it felt like it had a huge budget. So if you average it out, it comes out way ahead, which is great! I would recommend it to anyone without hesitation. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/12/25 Full Review Zachary Jacob S Very solid! Absolutely captivating! Thought provoking! Good score! Very well shot and acted! Phenomenal effects! It gets even better on the second viewing! Highly recommended! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/07/25 Full Review John S Nice concept and very watchable. But some huge logic holes involving sentinent computers that are supposed to mother babies but suddenly don’t work while they are recharging, lack of monitoring equipment through the complex, lots of chances to ask questions that are never asked, etc… and an ending that ends far too easily without violence or retribution - yes the actual ending frame works, but more attention to the 5 minutes leading up to it could have made this a classic. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/30/24 Full Review Greg W Slick production with good acting and a thought provoking storyline. Google the ending AFTER watching it - there was lots of stuff I didn't realise. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/21/24 Full Review kasope j I didn't think it would be that good (most dystopian movies end up being very ordinary)... It's thought provoking in an unsettling way, and ended with a great twist. Very well written. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/03/24 Full Review Apple S Way better than I was expecting. My soul was frequently grappling with complex quanderies to do with AI and trust, throughout the movie. It was written, directed and performed remarkably well I felt. The dynamics of trust and lying "for the greater good" and tribal loyalty to your own "kind" were all explored in a way in which I could tangibly feel the predicament to quite a profound degree. I often noticed the directing helped a lot with this too, capturing the emotion of a scene in the framing and choice of focus. Claire Ruggard as the daughter was also fantastic. Her reactions, at times, felt exactly fitting for the moment in a way that I couldn't quite envisage the emotion I was feeling until I saw it on her face. All in all a surprisingly good film. Steadily paced, thrilling at times, thought-provoking and captivating. Would warrant a second viewing, which is always a good sign. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/29/24 Full Review Read all reviews
