Gary Goldstein Los Angeles Times "I Am Not a Hipster" is the kind of lovingly crafted, deeply affecting drama that gives small indie films a good name. Rated: 4/5 Jan 11, 2013 Full Review Aaron Cutler Village Voice The title accurately reflects Brook's constant self-involved, self-protective pose, but both he and the film tightly focused on him would have so much more fun if they just pulled back a little, looked around, and reached out. Jan 9, 2013 Full Review Dennis Harvey Variety A deeper glimpse of the San Diego indie-rock scene around him might have made Brook's self-absorbed resentment less overbearing. Jan 24, 2012 Full Review Jordan M. Smith IONCINEMA.com ...a heartfelt meditation on loneliness, and art's ability to both help process the past or provide phlegmatic entertainment. Feb 9, 2020 Full Review Amie Simon Three Imaginary Girls Though it's not a perfect film, there's an authenticness to it that I can't quite pin down-I think it's because it's layered with lots of severely amazing music. Mar 4, 2019 Full Review Don R. Lewis Film Threat It moved me, made me laugh, made me think and has an amazing performance by actor and musician Dominic Bogart that, honestly, blew me away. Manash Jyoti G This was too tough to understand the emotions behind this, it's a really heartwarming experience Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/29/22 Full Review Audience Member I read a comment before watching that totally stuck with me throughout. . It just said he totally was a hipster . I agree . I woulda liked a little more if I thought his music was better 2.2 Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/28/20 Full Review Audience Member Beautiful music and beautiful performances. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Meh. He was such a hipster. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Destin Cretton knows how to work with actors. The primary cast of I Am Not a Hipster is captivating enough save the film from utter mediocrity and elevate it into the category of watchable character study. Yet, a distinct lack of originality on a script level prevents the film from being particularly memorable. The soundtrack, however, is excellent and there are moments sprinkled throughout that hint at Cretton's potential as a director (which would later be realized with Short Term 12). Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member In which not a lot happens and Dominic Bogart plays an incredibly believable narcissist. It's a movie of moments, a lot of lovely moments. It is earnest in its execution, but, as a movie, it feels incomplete. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews
