Christopher Campbell Nonfics (Substack) I Am Ready, Warden is obviously against the death penalty, but not explicitly. I’m more inclined to say it’s a pro-humanity issue film, one that offers a heartbreaking look at the complexity of justice and forgiveness. Nov 22, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Heather J The battle of choosing between morality and vengeance are never so clear as when a loved one is killed and the murderer is on death row. Is "an eye for an eye" the right way to go and should our government make that decision? Can people actually change, or is it a ploy to avoid consequences? The juxtaposition of these themes have never been clearer than in this short film, and although this is one example of a case, the emotions it conjures could be applied to so many others. I think this documentary shows that humans are fallible, but also redeemable. Is it time to rethink the death penalty? I think this documentary can help you answer that. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/01/25 Full Review Dawn S As a proponent of the death penalty, this was interesting for me to watch. I think it's important to keep in mind that carrying out a death sentence is difficult... it's messy, for lack of a better term. It leaves many wounded people in its wake. But it's usually far cleaner than the crime that landed the perpetrator on death row in the first place. Ultimately, the convicted people receiving this punishment have a far easier death than their victim(s) did. They get to tell people goodbye. They get to try to make things right with God. All of these are things they denied to their victim(s), so pardon me if my heart doesn't bleed for them. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/28/25 Full Review Gregory W Documentary short about a man on death row in Texas for killing someone when he was 19. Really well done, with interviews of the guy and the son of his victim, plus others involved in the case. The killer was ultimately found after four years on the lam after his case was put on America’s Most Wanted. I think the death penalty is one of those things we are all conflicted over, as a country. There’s really nothing less civilized than eye for an eye, but there’s also nothing more visceral. Worth your 35 minutes. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/25 Full Review Jonathan K This short documentary really nails capturing both sides of the story. It's super effective, and heartbreaking in how well it does. It sticks with you. Poignant, stirring, and definitely thought-provoking. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/23/25 Full Review Yash B "I Am Ready, Warden" is a documentary that aims to ask challenging questions. I personally am someone who believes that there should not be a death penalty, regardless of the crime. So while the crime depicted in this is heinous, I do not believe it should be up to us to decide who lives and who doesn't. Therefore, I found myself touched by this documentary. Unfortunately, I don't see this changing any minds of those who disagree any time soon, so I feel it isn't as impactful as it could have been. Overall, this is a good documentary that asks the right questions and reminds the viewer of our humanity and capacity to change, which I personally thought was a good notion.
