Alison Willmore New York Magazine/Vulture A scabrous satire about navigating an industry that parrots all the right things about wanting women's stories, but doesn't actually seem to have changed that much... Aug 11, 2021 Full Review David Stratton The Australian The writer-director-actor takes a while to hit her stride, but by the end the viewer is likely to be unnerved and amused by this display of egocentricity, homicide and low-budget film-craft. Rated: 3.5/5 May 24, 2021 Full Review Donald Clarke Irish Times An entertainment that, for all its frayed edges, never falters in its delivery of disgraceful, outrageous, tasteless gags. Rated: 4/5 Apr 23, 2021 Full Review Anya Couture Geek Vibes Nation I Blame Society grabs you from the opening scene and does not let go. Once the title splashes onto the screen at the very end and the credits roll you’ll find yourself thinking about this in between nearly every social interaction, if not during. Jul 26, 2025 Full Review David Parkinson Radio Times Several gags misfire and the lo-fi film-making technique is a little self-conscious, but I Blame Society often feels cringingly, winsomely authentic. Vaughn R Tonight we watched this one. 'I Blame Society' Brief synopsis; Playing a fictionalized version of herself, director Gillian Horvat resolutely navigates a series of comical obstacles, skeptical intimates, and biased industry gatekeepers to get her first feature film off the ground. From a subjectively innocent initial concept that sings to fans of the 'My Favorite Murder' podcast she deftly executes the first in a series of impeccable transgressions of an unforgivable madness... This film is both an amusing and alternately disturbing in its narrative exploring the dark side of artistic vision. Articulating the often celebrated egregious qualities deemed to be intrinsic to cinematic brilliance. All in all, I enjoyed this lots more than I thought I would. Low budget, low expectations. This one proves that that's not always the case. Vaughn Roxx gives this 3.5 Stars. ☆☆☆\ Sun Angel Roxx gives this 3 Stars. ☆☆☆ Total, 6.5 Stars out ov 10 ☆☆☆☆☆☆\ Worth a look if you can be stuffed. Enjoy 🤙😎 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/28/25 Full Review Melissa L This was one messed-up movie. The idea was original...and that's about the only redeeming quality about this movie. I don't recommend it. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/19/24 Full Review Aaron K A decent student film that critics will love because it's about the film industry. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/16/24 Full Review brad p Gillian Wallace Horvat's killer satire shows just how fun it can be to be famous in your own head. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member yeah idk - i've seen others compare this to the Creep franchise, but Creep was INFINITELY better. this wasn't even on the same golf course, let alone up to par with Creep. although, it was creepy. the main girl is a walking red flag, I'm not sure how she got her boyfriend to begin with let alone keep him for as long as she did. I'm actually not sure i liked it, but it's a pretty good depiction of something - i don't know what - an aspiring filmmaker who also happens to be a little mentally unstable? lol. idk. I'm not mad i watched it, but i don't think i'd recommend this one. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Whiny, slow, self-centered mental masturbation. It was viscerally repellent and disgusting, like watching Lena Dunham talk about molesting her little sister. Also can we get some elocution lessons please? The words are clear, but this nasal vocal fry, jfc. Unbearable. Shakycam warning for migraine, motion sickness, and seizure patients. At first it doesn't look like it will have that, but of course it does. This filmmaker will spare no effort to make people sick. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews
