Variety Staff Variety Carries some interest on the novelty angles, if nothing else, but on the whole is generally tepid. Mar 26, 2009 Full Review Bosley Crowther New York Times I Married A Witch is spiritualism in a vein of knockabout farce. It is more oh-boy than occult. But its humor is Clair enough. Rated: 4/5 Mar 25, 2006 Full Review Geoff Andrew Time Out Lake is delightfully effective as the malicious woman, whose ideas of punishment are often beautifully absurd, and March provides an excellent foil. Feb 9, 2006 Full Review Cole Smithey ColeSmithey.com "I Married A Witch" is a high concept movie, especially for 1942. The picture carries a Frenchness in its lighthearted attitudes regarding relations between men and the women who enchant them. Rated: FIVE STARS Oct 12, 2024 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand ... René Clair’s sexy ghost story by way of a cockeyed American romantic comedy is a delightful and deftly made little trifle Oct 29, 2022 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins It's no masterpiece, but the film features plenty of bubbly romance, playful magic, bungled witchcraft, and light singing. Thom G While I Married a Witch belongs to another era, if you set aside your preconceptions and allow yourself to immerse in its world, you may find it to be one of the sweetest, innocently pure, and tender love stories, offering a delicate, entertaining, simple, but touching escape. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/05/24 Full Review Alec B For a non-musical studio comedy of the era, there is a lot more emphasis on the visual style than you might expect, which is essential given the fact that certain characters spend a good portion of the movie as wisps of smoke. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/09/24 Full Review Mike F Absolutely loved everything about this picture. The witch portrayed by Veronica Lake is beautiful and hilarious. The funniest movie I have found from this era. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/11/23 Full Review Bob W A near perfect supernatural spin on the classic screwball farce delivered with frothy style by Rene Clair. Veronica Lake at her absolute finest as the simultaneous bubble-head and brilliant immorta. and the great Frederic March doesn't do so badly himself. Only 77 minutes! No doubt the primary inspiration for the original "Bewitched" TV series. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Absolutely hilarious great show. Yes you need to watch it. James Welch, Henderson, Arkansas May 24, 2023. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/24/23 Full Review david l I Married a Witch is such a charming fantasy romantic comedy that is lighthearted and innocent to a fault, but undeniably a pleasant watch. Veronica Lake was incredible here and perfectly cast as the witch having in mind that she had that otherworldly quality to her look and her voice. She stole the movie even from the great Fredric March himself. Their relationship is so endearing that it elevated what is otherwise a somewhat uneven and thinly plotted flick.
