Michael P 12/09/2024 I've watched this film at least a dozen times and never grew tired of it -- and still laugh out loud at the jokes. Pat Buttram's "Hog Holder" monologue is one of the funniest I've ever seen. But I don't watch it for the jokes -- or even for the all girl crew (although they make for exemplary eye candy). I watch it because it's an enjoyable piece of escapism. From the first frames when we see the sailboat (with its paper doll sail) skimming through the waves along with a siren voiced singer saying "Take me with you..." I'm hooked. The story is pretty simple: Gardner McKay has a problem with getting drunk and betting his boat against his arch enemy, Fred Clark's. Since this happens during a victory celebration for having just beaten Clark, McKay sweetens the pot by boasting that he can do it with an all girl crew. Naturally, he chooses his crew based on their looks as opposed to their experience as sailors. Despite its title, the film is pretty tame -- no nudity, sex scenes, or strong language. McKay continually breaks the 4th wall by addressing the audience directly through the camera, and the there's an imaginative scene filmed as a silent slapstick comedy. Basically, if I could pick any movie that I'd like to be my life, it would be this one. See more Read all reviews
