Dennis Harvey Variety Newcomers will find this adapted tale's fantasy logic arbitrary, its plot convoluted, and the sum effect wildly unconvincing... Oct 12, 2018 Full Review Simon Abrams RogerEbert.com The main reason 'I Still See You' doesn't come together is that Speer and Fuchs are so focused on complicating their already over-convoluted plot. Rated: 1.5/4 Oct 12, 2018 Full Review Rex Reed Observer Kids with little experience and no discernible talent keep turning out bombs with alarming frequency. Add a dreary, post-apocalyptic mishap called I Still See You to the list. Rated: 0/4 Oct 12, 2018 Full Review Sarah Musnicky Nightmarish Conjurings A muddling disappointment. Sep 25, 2019 Full Review Luis Fernando Galván En Filme An imprecise script that is continually disconnected from its fundamental purpose and makes the way forward tortuous. Marlene G My husband and I enjoyed this movie and disagree with many of the critics who said only teen girls would enjoy it (we are in our mid-60s). We found the plot twists interesting and the acting/dialogue well done (the young leads, in particular, were authentic in their presentation, and banter between the lead and her teacher was charming). We rewatched the movie to see what we would notice knowing all that we knew at the end of the movie, which was also fun, and my husband has ordered the book. However, while we got a "4 star" experience out of it, it was hard not to notice it's deficiencies (hence the 3-star rating). Much of the plot treatment was more like hard science fiction (explaining how to photograph the ghosts, for example), but some of the plot seemed to gloss over the science in such a cursory fashion as to feel very juvenile (e.g., Why WOULD birthdays make a difference if birth years didn't?). The other issue is that the writer/director thought that brief glimpses of something or random pieces of evidence were enough to make things clear, but we had a really hard time figuring out what was happening in various scenes. What DID she pull out from under the sofa? What was the man doing in her house? We figured these out, but it took some major discussion and freeze framing on our part. Other things that should have been explained or clarified were not: Do remnants have the gift of allowing you to see the future (think of the dream sequence)? Why did some appear just because, and others appear because a living person "called" them in some way? We knew that the rules were more complex than the government sanctioned lies, but what WERE the rules? They seemed unclear and arbitrary in many cases. Anyhow, we had a lot of fun with this movie, but I wonder about decisions that left some big holes in the plot and in our understanding. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/16/25 Full Review Josh T This was a pretty good movie I watched it twice and saw things that I didn't see the first time I don't know where the bad reviews are coming from Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/08/24 Full Review mark g I thought it was an interesting film and well acted. Don't understand all the negativity. Also love the Canadian winter scenery. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/14/24 Full Review Ann K I’m not a critic at all, just a regular viewer enjoying escapism and this movie held up. Enjoyed the story, the twists and mood. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/22/24 Full Review Audience Member The concept is really cool. The movie itself does not have a very good script. The first half is pretty hard to get through but the second half wasn’t too terrible. It’s mostly hard to watch for me because I can’t take anyone seriously with that much lip filler and the teacher thing is weird. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/03/24 Full Review Ryan R Very well written and the acting was great! I was invested from start to finish. You can tell it did not have the highest of budgets but they did a phenomenal job!!! Not sure why it got such low ratings... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/02/24 Full Review Read all reviews
