Critics Consensus

Chris Rock's comedic instincts are muted and the female characters are unsatisfactorily drawn in this uneven sex farce/domestic drama mashup.

Ben Kenigsberg Time Out Rock's breakthrough as a director -- a chance for him to grapple openly with his status as a maturing (but still ostensibly immature) comedian. Rated: 4/6 Jun 23, 2007 Full Review Scott Tobias AV Club One of the film's key revelations is that his resistance to having an affair comes as much from wishing to maintain his lifestyle (the high-paying job, the nice house, the kids) as from loyalty to his wife. Why sharp observations like that one would need Rated: B- Apr 5, 2007 Full Review Toddy Burton Austin Chronicle Neither stylistically innovative nor particularly entertaining. Rated: 2/5 Mar 31, 2007 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins A laugh-less comedy, an unmoving drama, and a ragtag assemblage of feeble characters spouting pathetic dialogue. Rated: 1/10 Nov 24, 2020 Full Review Micheal Compton Bowling Green Daily News Rock tries to add some humorous moments, but most come off as either crass and crude or just plain weird. River P I’m not much a fan of I think I love my wife, but I don’t outright hate it. It has some bits I don’t mind. It’s got an interesting set up where Chris Rock plays a character who has a job working for a computer business. He has an important job title. And he has sort of a jerk wife played Gina Tores who keeps nagging him about not being home. There is another woman who is his life long friend played by Kerry Washington. I thought Chris Rock and Kerry Washington worked well together. I thought they had a nice relationship in the movie. I kind of wish the whole movie was just about those 2 because I thought Gina Tores was the weakest part. Honestly, I did not like her character. I really did not care for her performance. I’m not a fan of her in the movie. It should’ve been Kerry and Chris. Again, I did not like Gina Tores. She was so irritating to me. But I would say I even like Chris Rock more than her in the movie, sadly. And Steve Buscemi is also in it as Chris’s co-worker at his job. Now part of me thinks Steve Buscemi was a little bit miscast or maybe give him more scenes to develop would make it work better. So overall, I’m sort of in between thoughts on I think I love my wife. It has issues and problems. Sadly, I probably got more chuckles out of I think I love my wife than Osmosis Jones and Down to earth. The way Chris Rock was playing the role, he was very less annoying. He was being more subdued and having lots of quiet moments. I appreciate that. He actually did well. He’s being more funny and serious at the same time. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/09/24 Full Review Audience Member This is by far the worst movie I’ve ever seen. And oh my god that seen at the end when Chris Rock is taking off the woman’s panties so cringe. He’s probably like that in real life. Man this is horrific it is so bad. If I could give this stupid movie negative stars I would. And please stop with the lame ass gospel music it’s dumb. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member It‘s a good ass movie! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie is really bad. I gave it about 45 minutes and had to change the channel. The only upside was Kerry Washington but strangely she looked the same as she does today in 2020 but in the movie she looks as old as she does today lol Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review adam b A generic but amusing comedy, mostly because of Chris Rock. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member I had fun with this movie. It does put you in those situations because Kerry Washington is hot!!!
