Mike P (spoilers) Lynn Holly Johnson is Lexie Winston; young superstar ice skating phenom who is on her way to the Olympics; when a stupid stunt unexpectedly blinds her, crushing all her ambitions for Olympic superstardom. Robby Benson is Nick Peterson, her boyfriend who helps her pick up the pieces, and over-come her handicap so she can still achieve her dreams...But Ice Castles aren't much sturdier than sand castles folks...And this isn't very good as a result... I mean...The best things about this disease-of-the-week affliction-drama are 1) Melissa Manchester's moving theme song, "Looking Through the Eyes of Love" 2) Lynn Holly Johnson's impressive figure skating, and her very believable performance as a blind girl, and 3) the impressive supporting cast, including Robby Benson, who does excellent work as the rock-of-support boyfriend who trains her; and the always reliable Colleen Dewhurst. The worst thing about it is the TV movie like formula script; locked into a formula so strict and severe it's almost blinding in and of itself...I mean all you can see is this by-the-numbers story formula. If you really want to see an amazing affliction drama, see My Left Foot; which features Daniel Day Lewis' transformative performance as Christy Brown, an amazing man who overcame his CP to become a very successful and critically acclaimed Irish author and painter in the early part of the 20th century. That's amazing ...And this is boring. Overall: Not Recommended 👎 Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/17/24 Full Review Audience Member I didn't love this movie but I'm glad I finally watched it. I wasn't thrilled with it and I didn't really find it that emotional, but overall it was okay. Be prepared for the theme song to get stuck in your head! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review steve d Cheesy but earnest... Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review darren h Movie was exceptional. It's just a little dated. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member The best inspiring romance movie ever made! With the best movie song ever sung: Through the Eyes of Love! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review ashley h Ice Castles is an okay film. It is about young girl who is on top of the world until a tragic accident dashes her hopes. Lynn-Holly Johnson and Robby Benson give decent performances. The screenplay is a little slow in places. Donald Wrye did an alright job directing this movie. I liked this motion picture because of the drama and romance. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times Do we need the additional emotional jolts of blindness, paralysis and amputation in order to accept a story about young love and kids succeeding by luck and pluck? But unfortunately, the film has to have a typical Hollywood story that is about as generic as Crispy Rice.
