V.A. Musetto New York Post Rated: 3/4 Oct 11, 2010 Full Review Stephen Holden New York Times The dystopia conjured by Idiots and Angels, Mr. Plympton's sixth and best animated feature, suggests Toulouse-Lautrec by way of Charles Bukowski. Rated: 4/4 Oct 8, 2010 Full Review Eric Kohn indieWire Now in his early sixties, Plympton has made his most accomplished feature...his characters resemble images in motion rather than full-on animations, as if a Looney Tunes cartoon made love to a Ralph Steadman sketch. Oct 6, 2010 Full Review Luke Y. Thompson E! Online ...the punk rock of animated features: handmade, profane, challenging to the status quo, and occasionally ugly, yet groundbreaking. Dec 19, 2010 Full Review Kam Williams NewsBlaze A delightful yarn revolving around an age-old showdown between good and evil. Rated: 3/4 Oct 11, 2010 Full Review Jim Slotek Jam! Audience Member Truly one of his more deep and poignant films. If you are not laughing from that last sentence let me be clear: Bill Plympton quilts loving madness and sentimental debauchery into stories of love conquering all over a Salvador Dali fart joke. Madness is on the menu alone, but the spice to this madness for this film is morality questions. In that, I find comfort as I laugh at faces melting and boobs flying. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Phenomenal ideas, beautiful and wholly unique shots, and captivating execution. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Without a doubt, Idiots is Angels is one of Bill Plympton's best works. Is it his best?....hmmm..maybe not, it is very monochromatic, and while it is called a comedy, I really didn't find that many jokes. I'd prefer something more colorful than this movie, but for what it is, Idiots and Angels is a great film. The characters look great, it's surreal, and it's imaginative. I'd recommend it. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member A good way to tell a story without using dialog.
